Not to spark any controversy here, Les (No, not me!), but can't you just see Lindsey wanting to upchuck when he heard some of that stuff? I wouldn't be surprised if Elton John got one of those dog-doo gift packages in the mail around that time from an anonymous sender.

The Patron Saints tribute to me was a hellavuh lot more original and listenable.

The Patron Saints thing is just more interesting because these bands did the tribute on their own and picked the songs that really meant something to them, rather than having them doled out to them as part of a preconceived marketing project. The covers are certainly way more weird and in some cases I'm not sure the musicianship is particularly good...but it just has a more pure kind of spirit about it, for me anyway.

True enough about the musicianship. Incidentally, one of the best covers of Lindsey songs I've come across is Holiday Road by a band called Limp. I don't know much about this particular band, but I dig the cover. NOFX did a juiced-up version of Go Your Own Way, but it was a li'le too hard for me.

Boy, I'm just full of tangents today. I really should be doing some work, but... "Don't know why I have to work/Don't know why I can't play..."

Go Vegan!

Brian,
Let's relax a little, ok?
I didn't expect Stevie to be singing on it, why would I expect her on a tribute album? and I'm not sure where I even mentioned that in my earlier comment. That is beside the point. I wasn't too crazy with the result of Gold Dust Woman because I just don't dig the lead voice. I don't care for his voice on his own songs. The band, the guitar playing, etc was just fine otherwise.

I consider the Patron Saints tribute album a comedy album. In a few cases it sounds like the producer gave everybody a big bong-hit, opened a Fleetwood Mac songbook to a random song, and had the band play the song without ever hearing the original version. I LOVE that "hick" version of "Hypnotized".

That's a pretty good summation, Chili.

Just thought you'd all like to read this regarding Camper's Tusk:

Jeffles: I'm plenty relaxed. If I were in the least bit irate, I'D BE TALKING LIKE THIS. I just don't see what's so odd about his voice...it seems rather normal to me (even *gasp* pleasant).

It's odd that Lindsey and Mick both declined to be interviewed....especially Mick. When has he ever turned down a chance to be in the news? Weird!

That's great. Thanks, Scouts.

How deliciously ironic would it be if this record spawned a hit or two? I could see Camper's versions of Think About Me and Storms getting played on the radio, seeing as they are the least weird of the renditions.

Do you think that Mick and Lindsey didn't want to comment on the album because they didn't like it and don't want to say anything if they can't say something nice? Or, didn't they hear it yet? Or, are they just doing the typical FM thing by not taking opportunites for publicity?

It seems that they could have at least said they were flattered or something. The fact that they remained silent makes us think that Mick and Lindsey didn't like the album.
Still, did Camper Van Beethovan have to get FM's permission to record this album?
