Default What does John want/expect from Touring?

We all know that Stevie and Mick are in it for the money. If Lindsey had his way we would get many extended guitar solos and probably a lot more obscure tracks performed live. What does John want? I'd guess John just wants to play bass and tour occasionally and make some money so he can spend more time with family or sailing. Or that's what we've been led to believe all these years. No one ever asks John what he's in it for. Maybe he's more greedy than we know. Maybe he's the one that won't tour without a high guarantee? I don't really know. What do you think John wants/expects from touring?

What does John want? He wants those two Yanks to shut up for a couple hour hours so he can take a nap after the concert.

I'd agree with you--I think he wants to play bass. In one of the documentaries he talked about playing live and how there is nothing like it, each time is different, etc and he sounded like he enjoyed every moment of it. I think he likes the travel, visiting different places and playing bass but treasures peace and quiet (books, Arsenal football, etc).

I'm sure the money doesn't hurt and allows him and his family a comfortable lifestyle, boats, cars, etc. He doesn't come across as particularly greedy...seems more of a 'grateful for what I've got' type of guy.

He's an Arsenal fan? I always wondered. Nice.

He is indeed--he talked a bit about Arsenal in the Q&A sessions. Hopefully he was able to squeeze in a match or two during the recent UK tour!

I mainly figure he does it as a favor to Mick! No really, I think he does it to do the job he enjoys. The money is nice, too.

Funny you should ask this,

I was at the sydney show last monday and as soon as they had finshed the encores john quickly dropped his bass and then ran off side stage to get out of there,

He didn't say anything or even wave or anything- he just ran away, while the rest of the band kept on yakking.

Maybe he just loves playing and has no desire to talk to fans or participate in the hype.

Well, he is the only member of the 5 of them to do a Q&A session with us fans on this site. I just think he doesn't have a big enough ego to do what Mick does at the end of the show. We have heard how he loves to play and I really do believe he loves to play and travel to the different places. Enough so to leave his family for a while.

We all know that John is really quite shy and doesn't like being in the spotlight, That's why he gets off stage quickly at the end of the show. In alot of the interviews he always says touring is what he loves best...For me that means he enjoys playing at all the different venues and cities. The cash is just a bonus....he comes across as modest everytime I've saw him interviewed. A favour to Mick is probably part of it too

An attack of irritable bowel syndrome, quite possibly.

It's probably a lot easier for him to answer questions online than to interact face to face. I understand that. It takes a lot of guts to even get up on stage, much less meet and talk with strangers (even if they are fans).

Thanks for the additional info on his Arsenal love. As a soccer fan I'm loving it.
