It just seems odd- Rumours spent so much time at the top end of the charts and has continued to pop up in the top 200 ever since. surely that would give it more points than Lady Gaga's album which didnt reach #1 and hasn't spent anywhere near the amount of time on the charts Rumours has. I know it was very successful and I know it stuck around for a long time- just doesnt seem intuitive that it would accrue more points.

I think you're underestimating digital sales.
Nowadays with the digital download option an album can have virtually unlimited sales.
