Default Billboard: Stevie Nicks Strikes 'Gold' With Latest Solo Tour

Stevie Nicks’ first solo tour in four years – the 24 Karat Gold Tour – impacts the latest Hot Tours tally (see list, below), as the trek’s final show from its fall 2016 run ranks at No. 3 on the tally. The show, held on Dec. 18 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., grossed $1.3 million from a sell-out crowd of 14,210.

The new tour supports Nicks’ most recent solo album, 24 Karat Gold: Songs From the Vault, which was released in September 2014. The set debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking Nicks’ sixth solo top 10-charting effort.

The 24 Karat Gold Tour – with The Pretenders on board as the opening act – also topped $1 million in sales at Madison Square Garden in New York City with a sold-out performance on Dec. 1. Revenue from that concert reached $1.5 million with a sold ticket count of 15,167. Final box-office figures have not yet been reported from the entire fall run, but estimated grosses from the Live Nation-produced tour fall in the $25 million range based on box office data from 10 shows reported to Boxscore during the fall.

The 24 Karat Gold Tour launched Oct. 25 in Phoenix and will pick back up after a winter break on Feb. 23 in Reno, Nevada. The tour will continue through April. The Pretenders will remain with the tour through the April finale.

The tour is Nicks’ first solo outing since her In Your Dreams Tour wrapped in September 2012. The following spring, she headed out on the road with her band Fleetwood Mac for the Fleetwood Mac Live tour from April through December 2013. It was followed by another Mac tour, the On With the Show tour (with a returning Christine McVie), from September 2014 through November 2015.

This is the best Stevie tour ever. I definitely need to hit either the Orlando or Jacksonville date when she comes back around. Love it!!

im confused, and im not trying to knock SN but isnt at least 40 percent of this tour due to the Pretenders? I mean, they do have fans as well, so hence having a big act with you makes it easier 2 get big numbers? I highly doubt if it was SN alone that she would be putting up these numbers

Just my respectable opinion

When the Pretenders play venues by themselves, they generally play in 2000-3500 seat halls.

According to Chrissie Hynde herself for the Sacramento Q&A:

I never really liked the bigger venues. I like clubs and theaters, but these arenas for some reason feel more intimate than the theaters just cause of the way it’s set up. We’re right at the lip of the stage, and it feels really small, which is what turns me on. It’s a Stevie Nicks audience, but some people like us as well and there might be some people who come see us.

Like always to me the answer is that "the whole that is greater than the sum of its parts". Stevie and Chrissie are a combination that works, therefore together they can reach more than what any of them could reach as a single act.

She is going out on top. This tour is a real achievement. She might retire.

YES. I believe your opinion is very legitimate.

Hi Sister

So you are saying that if SN was SOLO on this tour that odds are that she wouldnt be getting these numbers correct ? As that was the point of my post

If they sell out a 14,000 theater, and the Pretenders tour 2000-3000 seat venues alone, then Stevie might account for 10,000-11,000 of the sold tickets.

Does that equal 40% for the Pretenders and 60% for Stevie Nicks?

I don't think so. I reckon in a 15,000 seat venue, Stevie would attract 12,000 and The Pretenders probably 3,000. So more like 80% : 20%.

I didn't notice anybody leaving after The Pretenders finished their set in Ft Lauderdale. The arena stayed full from start to finish. The Pretenders played about an hour, and Stevie played just over 2 hours. It was packed until the finale encore. I think they share some of the same audiences, because the people that acted like huge Pretenders fans at the show I attended, acted like huge fans of Stevie when she did her set. Who knew? LoL. It's pretty cool how this has become a "hot ticket" of the fall concert tours. Promotion was pretty good before the tour launched. Reviews have been fantastic, and word of mouth has created a buzz.
