Default David Gilmour : "Then I Close My Eyes"

I know there are David Gilmour fans that visit this section. I've had the "Remember that Night" DVD for almost half a year, and skipped this song until recently. This is Gilmour's tribute to Peter Green. It's his version of 'Albatross'. When Mick Fleetwood was interviewed by Jools Holland last fall, Jools told Mick that they(Gilmour) did a one off version of "Albatross" a couple weeks previous.

To solidify my finding, I found a Gilmour blog site that mentioned how this version topped the original song of influence and mentioned it by name. Everyone has an opinion, it doesn't mean they are correct.

Default so, how was it?

I have not yet heard this version. I like David Gilmour's tone. I believe he is a Peter fan too.

I personally like it, and it's worth seeking out. The "Remember That Night" DVD is one of those items that gives you faith that one can return to a time when they were writing great music. Frankly I was never a big Roger Waters guy, and those two post-Waters Floyd albums weren't good either. This reminds me of the Meddle/Obscured By Clouds/Dark Side of the Moon David Gilmour that I really like.

Must check that album/dvd out.
Gilmour's great, very much "feel" player, like Greeny.
He never plays too fast, and with precision and class.

The album is called "On An Island". Oh, I forgot to mention that Richard Wright (R.I.P.) plays keyboards on the DVD, and David Crosby/Graham Nash sing back-up on a few tunes. It's well worth the purchase. My favorite solo is the second from "Where We Start". For that song (DVD) Gilmour plays a Gretsch Duo jet.

Crosby and Nash's vocals for "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" are stunning.

Default We have a winner...

I found this on David Gilmour's website. It's a Q&A between Gilmour and his fans. Here is one of the questions:

SM: Nick Bell is in Leeds, in Yorkshire. [He says]: 'If you could go back in time, which song or guitar solo would you like to have written or played?'.

DG: There's so many, it's very hard to answer. I think, for me, about the perfect pop song is 'Waterloo Sunset' by The Kinks [audience applauds] and I'd love to have written that. Absolutely great.

Guitarwise, maybe 'Albatross' by Fleetwood Mac.
