This is the sort of ballad that Mick Fleetwood's style -- a faultlessly steady pulse with the emphasis on the kick & spare use of crashy, bangy cymbals -- is perfect for.
When I think of Fleetwood Mac (when I bother), this sound, undergirded by his kick, is what I think of. It stands alone in the annals of rock. It's unique. I remember those days of hearing this in the cavernous halls of the old Forum. The joining of incommensurates -- Christine's music-boxy electronic-piano noodles set against the wallop of Mick's kick -- is what gave the listener such satisfaction. These days, with forty-five aesthetically pointless people contributing noise to the proceedings, that satisfaction is completely absent in me. It's like padding a skeleton with so much foam that it becomes a giant parade float.

David listens to Lieberstraum while mourning the absence of Christine, just like Bette Davis did in All About Eve....

This is fantastic. Always thought Over and Over was such a wonderful song and from what I've heard, they always managed to nail it live when it was done.
I couldn't imagine it now, even if Chris was touring. The little background singers would be oohhhing and ahhhing and woooing along with their corresponding dance wiggles from one end of the song to the other. |

I dug The Ledge and Save Me A Place from this set. Christine McVie on guitar!
Honestly, the band should have quit after this tour. This was their peak.

I've always thought of the Mirage tour as pretty explosive... then they should've quit.

Now, with all the support players there...the sound is so much more generic.

This was another example of how wrong Lindsey was about Christine's tunes "not coming off well" live...
I couldn't disagree more... SYLM YMLF Brown Eyes Oh Daddy Over and Over Songbird Don't Stop Isn't It Midnight Little Lies Everywhere Why Spare Me A Little What's he talkin about????

Who can tell? Apparently her songs are not "emotionally incisive" either. Just goes to show how much he wishes she was still in the band. He says silly things like that and over compensated for her absence on SYW. Gail |

He can be quite ridiculous when it comes to his female co-writers...
