"Boy With a Coin" by Iron and Wine sounds very "Illume"-ish to me.

I've been listening to Iron and Wine all day! The Shepherd's Dog is a great album that I've only just got. 'Boy With a Coin' is a highlight for me. I sort of get an 'Illume'-ish feel from it, but I don't hear too much musically. There is something about the drums that does remind me a bit of it now that I listen more. And about the some of the backing guitars and noises that recall Lindsey's vari-speed guitars on 'Illume'

Do you think Lindsey was inspired by Kate Bush's song Running Up That Hill when he was writing the music for Big Love? The drum beat and backround vocals are similar:

Can anyone repost the alternate Illume? Its original link has expired. Thanks, Ricoh

Wow, there are definite similarities between Illume & New York - I hate to say it because I DETEST Richard Ashcroft with a passion... perhaps the most arrogant performer on the music scene over the past ten years or so...
I would say though that if FM were "influenced" by this track then thay definitely used it as a jumping off point towards something much much stronger than Ashcroft's track... I still love Illume!

Came across this old thread and I have a theory to why this has happened with Stevie’s music a few times . Think of Stand Back - she admitted to writing the melody to Little Red Corvette, Edge of Seventeen- a Police song, Bombay Sapphires - Sting, and then Illume and Say You Will- Richard Ashcroft. I think whoever is producing her demos is where this comes from. Whether or not she is instructing her demo producer to “make it sound like _______” or if she is actually completely unaware is the open question. In the case of the Say You Will songs- she brought in finished demos and Lindsey tried to produce them close to her demos.

This is the Eo17 demo that really sounds like the Police song
