Default 75 show in maryland

Hey everyone, I might be posting something that's already been talked to death but here goes:

I just bought a two-disc dvd of FM live performances from the mid seventies. Many of the performances were culled from well-known shows like the "Midnight Special" and Tokyo concerts. But there's also an early show from June 75 in Maryland. So early, in fact, that Stevie's wearing jeans instead of chiffon.

She looks amazing and sounds great, too. But what struck me was how subdued, almost tentative a performer she was at that time. She holds back a lot on her vocal harmonies and only sings lead on one song. In fact, on "Blue Letter," Christine's harmonies uncharacteristically overpower Stevie's. The bulk of the show is dominated by Chris (who does most of the chatting between songs) and Lindsey. I hadn't realized Stevie's role was so confined in the early days. Is this concert typical of the 75 performances?

Yes I believe it is.

Stevie got some brutal reviews in the early days. One reviewer called her voice "raucous".
Also, while they all joke about it now, I wonder if Stevie thought they might kick her out and keep Lindsey.
This was also the same time they were traveling by station wagon and sleeping in the back of trucks. Stevie has said her parents were quite apprehensive when they saw how much weight she had lost. So I think it could be attributed to all of the above.

I have that Largo/Japan DVD too. That Largo show is my favorite live Fleetwood Mac show. I think it's probably later than June 1975, probably more like September 1975. Great set list, Chris pretty much fronting the band...what more could you want. They look and sound great.

I will say as far as the Japan '77 show goes, I wasnt too enamored with that crimped hair thing Christine had going. Other than that, she sounded great, as she always does.

I can live with Chris's crimped hair. But what was Stevie thinking with that perm and dress? And Mick's a bit too shaggy! lol

I agree, Mac Fan. As a fellow Chris fan I love that show! What a bold move beginning the set with "Get Like You Used to Be," which, as far as I know, wasn't normally their opening cut in previous years. And the redoubtable Station Man sounds amazing here. Her two songs "Spare Me" and "Why" receive among the loudest cheers of the set. Chris does everything right in that show. It just felt a little strange watching how unsure Stevie seemed in some of the numbers, sort of like "what am I supposed to do, be the band dancer?" She was deliberately holding back on her harmonies, too.

Yeah, the hair crimp (which was awful) was from the 77 show in Japan.

Well it was the 70's. She probably thought it looked pretty at the time.

Then again, she might have been a little tipsy when she did her hair...

Of course, I agree with you about Chris. And, it was a great idea to open with "Get Like You Used To Be". According to my bootlegs, in the past they usually opened with "Crazy 'Bout You" (in 1970) & "Tell Me All The Things You Do" later on. In my opinion, "Get Like You Used To Be" worked better.

I think Stevie was a bit tentative early on. Keep in mind, she only sang lead on 2 songs in these 1975 shows.

Christine's crimped hair is not my favorite hairstyle of hers, but that's what women were doing in those days.

Her crimped hair was trumped by Stevie's perm in that Midnight Special show though.

"Get Like You Used To Be" was the opener for more than just the 75 tour. It opened most of their earlier sets from at LEAST Penguin onwards.
