I don't think I've misinterpreted it, but obviously I have a different interpretation than others.

If I recall, Lindsey talked about either "I Know I'm Not Wrong" or "Not That Funny" in terms of having had one set of ideas when he was younger, about how life is and should be and will be, but that as you grow, you see that that's not always the case, and you don't have that kind of control.
(I'm probably mixing up more than one comment.)

And based partly on that, but mostly on the lyrics, I'm left feeling that these things... this woman who was "the dream of a lifetime," etc... and all these ideals that he had... didn't turn out to be what was true in the end.
And so it's sort of his younger self and his older self talking to each other, and the whole "Don't blame me, I know I'm not wrong" counterpoint is coming from his obstinate younger self. So it's an ironic statement, because the "older and wiser" Lindsey knows he was wrong about a lot of things... he was wrong about Stevie being the right woman for him, he was wrong that they'd spend their lives together, etc.

I think that's one of the reasons I like the song so much, because Lindsey is being so self-reflective there. He's not trying to see a situation through an observer's eyes, he's really taking stock of his own life there.

I suppose you can take the statement "I know I'm not wrong" at face-value, and feel that he meant it with absolutely no irony or sarcasm whatsoever, but that sure comes off in a rather arrogant way, if you ask me.
So I don't think he was being head-strong in that song... I really believe he was talking to himself, and working through some issues vocally (ie: giving up control over things that are not within his power), rather than simply internally.

Your interpretation is a very interesting one. You make sense. However, I dont see my interpretation as one that suggests he is arrogant and headstrong. It's more like a man who realizes that he's been wrong before and now, finally, he's doing the right thing.

THIS IS NOT A VOTE.

"Arrogant" wasn't really the right word on my part, no. But I do think boldly stating that he knows he's not wrong, without any irony whatsoever, is a little more cock-sure than Lindsey usually comes across in his songs. (Well, at least in the ones that aren't overtly sexual. In those, the ol' boy seems quite sure of himself! )

To touch on your last comment... I don't see it as him saying he was wrong before and right now, but rather that he was so positive that he was right, and now he realizes he still had a lot to learn.

I don't even know how these songs could be mentioned in the same breath. Save Me a Place needs to hit the road!

Default I adore Save Me A Place, but....

voting off Sara would be blasphemy. It really hurts that I don't support SMAP with this vote, but I am completely out of order about the fact that that song with Sara are going to conquer eachother in round 2

You Ledgies have NO TASTE.

I knew that. You all let Little Lies win the Tangothread. You suck, I don't.

I vote off ...............

gerald

EDIT: I No longer can hide here. All you guys who love sara are voting it OFF! So I decided to leave my principles, and defend Lindsey here because my earlier vote simply doesn't count. So F*ck all of you, with ableeding heart I vote off.....................SARA.
.....so now I suck too........

Lindsey arrogant!!? What a shock! But I'm not sure I would call it arrogant in this case. I see it as he telling himself, "I know I'm not wrong," as reassurance. After the breakup you may experience some doubt and there's that little voice inside that says, "but I know I'm right about this." And it's that little voice that tells you if you know you're right and being right won't save the relationship, it's time to let it go. I see no real irony there, not in the sense that I understand irony to mean. I see melancholy and reconciliation of one's actions with one's sense of reality. How many decisions do we have to make that defy one's emotions but ultimately are the right thing to do? That's what's going on there. No irony.

Not necessarily. See my last post. Besides, if that were the case, it still wouldn't shock me. This is the man who, after all, said he likes John Lennon because Lennon could get away with being rude in his songs.
