Default Mohegan Sun review 6-17-09

Just walked in from the Mac show at the Mohegan Sun tonight. First off, this show was BETTER than the show they did there in March of this year. I'm not a big fan of doing the same set list night after night, but it has made them incredibly tight. The harmonies between Stevie and Lindsey were incredible. He now sings with her on songs he didn't before like "Gold Dust Woman" and "Storms". They did drop "Silver Springs", but I was totally ok with that, I was exhausted after "Don't Stop" and I think that's the sign of a great show. Ever since 1997 and "The Dance" I have grown to really like Lindsey's "I'm So Afraid" and tonight's performance was like an exorcism, it was mind blowing. Stevie did an awesome job on "Stand Back" although she totally flubbed one of the verses, she ended up just kind of humming the tune until she got to where she could remember the line. For her twirl during "Stand Back" she literally twirled across the stage. I liked how she changed the ending of "Gold Dust Woman" from the usual "running in the shadows..." to "run into the shadow...." subtle change yes, but very cool nonetheless. When she came out for "Go Your Own Way" with the top hat it was like going back in time to the "Mirage" concert video, she looked great. Overall she seemed to be having a blast in particular during "World Turning". In fact everyone on the stage seemed to be in top form. Doing all these shows has made them so much better than the start of the tour. Incredible!!
Now for other observations, Stevie appeared to be wearing the franken-boots all night, I couldn't tell if she changed for GYOW or not, I was too far away. I heard the ushers saying that the band was requesting that everyone in the first three rows go up to the stage before the start of the show. In fact someone from the crew came up to the people in the row right behind me and asked them if they would like to stand in front of the stage. I should have said I'd go too, but didn't want to seem pushy!!
Being that this was at the casino there were a LOT of 65 year old and up attendees. But they seemed to be just as it into the show as the younger people. Finally before going into the concert everyone is going thru security, this woman behind me says "What are we doing here? This can't be good!" Then she sees people are being frisked and she says "Oh my God! We're being searched!! You have got to be kidding me! I can't believe this!!! Why!!!!" She sounded like she was in complete state of panic!!!

Great show!!

Default The Mac rocked Mohegan Sun

Just got in also from Mohegan Sun. I agree the show was even better than in March! Stevie was more animated and her songs seemed stronger. This time it was not a sold out show but the crowd was really into it and made for a great evening. I saw John McVie make a funny face at Stevie during Gold Dust Woman. It looked like he stuck his tongue out at her ...very funny. During Go Your Own Way about a dozen stage hands and staff stood off Stevie's side of the stage wearing halloween type masks and looked at her while grooving to the music. Stevie walked over and laughed. You could tell that end of tour hi jinks are going on. I was watching Stevie's monitor ( I was sitting directly behind the soundboard type thing) and it tells her every movement like GO TO TENT etc. I thought that was funny. Would she forget when to leave the stage?

She wore the reebocks with the leather leg warmers all night. I could care less if it makes her more comfortable. What makes me giggle is she has little sparkly gems glued on the front of them.

The show started early 7:45 or so and they were packing up the equipment off stage even while the encore was still going on. No Silver Springs which I always enjoy hearing when Stevie is in good voice, as she was tonight. I guess they must be in a hurry for the next stop.

Lindsey was terrific. He really is enjoying himself on this tour. Flawless guitar work and lots of guitar god antics. He sure feeds off the audience. During Stand Back He put his hand over his heart and mouthed "I need a little sympathy", as if trying to convince the audience! He received huge applause after many songs. However, he also needs to keep a guitar in his hands . During one of the songs (can't remember which) he wasn't playing and his hands were all a flutter, sort of distracting. I felt like screaming play that guitar!

The arena at Mohegan Sun seats a little over 8000 (when doing 3/4 house, which is standard concert seating) and I heard one of the ushers saying that they had sold over 6000 tickets tonight. So it was a respectable turnout. I agree that tonight's crowd seemed more into the show than the crowd back in March.
By the way, the show was supposed to start at 7:30, so it actually started late. I always find it odd when people are pouring in ten to 15 minutes after the scheduled start time (and these same people filing out before the lights come up).

LOL!!!
That's funny about the telepromtors and monitors telling her to "Go to Tent" ... LOL!!! I wonder if her ear-piece monitor said, "Take off tacky Leather Gloves and switch to Black wrist fingerless Gloves"...???
LOL!!!
Remember a few tours back, I believe it was on the 'Gold Dust' tour... and many were making fun of her wearing the hair curlers/rollers from the 60's... and all of her road crew and band showed up with hair curlers/rollers in their hair backstage... That's so funny...

Just hope Mick & John don't let her walk into a hotel room fool of chickens... Wink ~ ;-)

The band looked happy and relaxed and sounded great.

I just wanted to comment that security was encouraging people to go up front. I was lucky enough to get to be the 2nd person behind Lindsey (right by his foot). As we were waiting for the band to come on, we chatted and respected everyones space. About the 5th or 6th song I felt somebody push and then a heel in my toes. When I looked over I saw it was no accident. This girl had deliberatly bulldozed her way and wanted to be under lindsey s mic. I told her she was very rude and should go back so she elbowed my chest/stomach and that was it. I had to leave the show for a bit and go back to my seat once I got my composure.
Security should have stopped her as there is a cut off point where no more is allowed up there and this is the last of the Mohegans for me.

I am so grateful to have made some friends so we could get together after the show .
And Debbie it was nice having a relaxing dinner . Thanks for going with me---did you get your ice cream? That is too funny!!!

At the show in March they were not allowing anyone near the stage unless you were in the first three rows, I saw TONS of people get turned away. Last night however they were allowing EVERYONE up to the front. As I said, one of the crew guys told the people behind me the band wanted as many people as possible up front. Because it was at the bands request, that's probably why nothing was being done.

Well, a group of us waited 45 minutes at the stage and we all talked and had respected each others space. 5 songs into the concert is at least 30 minutes into it and security is paid to hold the line so to speak. This woman held the attitude she'll take what she wants as she had a back stage pass. She literally came plowing through from no where........ What if I or someone else decided to use their jewlry (rings) to stick her real hard and for us to elbow her twice as hard back in her abdomen? I call it self defense. An ugly display in front row would dishoner the band . I am done with Mohegan.

On a cheerier note, it was great to see the band at LB's feet for 5 songs and see that Stevie looks happy,,,John has an inside joke that he actually smiles and Mick has so much life. But admit, Never going back again. Good luck to the Mac .

Here is Gold Dust Woman from last night. I only got the intro and the ending. I have a few photos and a few more videos to post later.
It is bouncy in parts thanks to the drunk blonde next to me. This is the one that was so rude to RoseGarden and a few others. The father/son team to my left tossed her out but sadly she returned to my right between Cheryl and myself.

It's hard to believe that the tour (this stage of it) will be over soon. I wonder if Lindsey's dedications will start to get more sentimental as things end, like they did for SYW.

Did Stevie mention that Cory was Lindsey's niece when she made the dedication?

I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you RoseGarden. Too bad security couldn't have been around to throw someone like that out. I am sure you are not the only one to whom she did something like that. One person can spoil things for so many.

Michele

A few more thoughts about last night's show, it seems Stevie's eye makeup is a bit darker and heavier than it has been, it looked good though.
Also those crickets at the beginning of the show seem to REALLY irritate some people. There were at least two people in my immediate area on the floor that were complaining. One woman grabbed an usher and asked "when that awful noise" would stop. I heard another woman say that this is just insane, why does it keep going!! I believe they walked out until just after the show started.
