Health Concern. Need Input.

Hey, guys.
I have a problem that won't go away.

It sounds like nothing, but it's actually pretty scary.
About 3 weeks ago, I realized that the outer edge of my big toe had went numb.
I remembered that the night before, I had stretched against the footboard and then felt a horrible bruise-feeling pain in my big toe joint.
Well, I went to the emergency room and they told me it was parasthesia...
It may wake, it may not.

(Thank God for doctors.)
Anyway... it's been like this for almost a month now.
Well, while ago I realized about half of the outer edge of my foot (on the same foot) has gone numb, too.
I think that's only because I feel weird walking on my numb toe, so I have been putting all my weight on the side of my foot.

I have a bit of carpal tunnel in my hands from staying on the computer all the time... so I don't know if that may be what's wrong with my feet... just plain ole inactivity?
I checked my blood sugar and have no symptoms of diabetes...
But, I noticed the numbness started after I bought a pair of new shoes... they have about a 3 inch heel on them and I wore them for about 5 hours one night... I haven't worn them since, but I'm still numb.
It's a horrible feeling.
It wouldn't be as bad if I knew what was wrong, though.

Any info, suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

matter of fact the numbness in my right leg was so bad I went to the Dr's today and found out I have nerve damage in my right leg due to a sciatic nerve (I think I spelt it right....The damage possibly came from my severe leg fracture on Feb.7,2003...The same day I received my tax refund and found out Fleetwood Mac were coming back to Oklahoma after 20+ years, Remember that day clearly.) and now I have told to remain off my feet until my next appt next Tuesday. If the pain doesnt go away from the pain meds I am now on then we have yet another neuro related issue I am suffering from (Hopefully it is not RSD or even worse MS and/or ALS.)

Did you doctor have you do bloodwork to check the level of acid in your blood? Could be a simple case of gout (My doctor thought I had gout when my big toe on my left foot went numb a few months back...) I would also recommend asking your doctor to check to see if you may have damaged a nerve in your foot if gout can be ruled out.

Sounds like a pinched nerve to me....I had that on my middle toe, from wearing high heels. It took about a month for the numbness and occasional shooting pain to go away.

Hope you feel better soon - and if it gets worse, definitely do not ignore it!

I pinched a nerve in my big toe in 1998. I went to a Motely Crue concert in knee high boots and by the end of the night 1/2 my foot was numb. It was like that for almost a month. I was scared to death. I thought damn I am getting old but this is ridiculous.

Sorry you both are having these problems. I would recommend tests for uric acid and also the tests for MS. My daughter's friend had a spot on the left side of her tongue that became numb and bothered her for several days....she had a really receptive and unique physician that found the problem right away. She (only 17) was in the first stages of MS. That was 4 years ago, she takes injections every day and as of now, is doing well. If you don't get the answer that is to your satisfaction, seek second, third opinions. However many it takes until you get resolution and relief. Find a physician that will LISTEN!.

I agree with the pinched nerve theory. If you think it was those shoes that caused it, try and see just where they arent fitting properly.

Nerve damage does eventually heal but it takes a freakin LOOOOONG time.
some nerves are close to the surface and are affected easier than others.
I betcha you'll regain feeling, just be patient. this could take months

I would suggest some type of circulatory disorder like Reynauds, but only if you are feeling it in your hands and feet. Do you feel cold in your extremities a lot? Do they turn different colors? If it is a pinched nerve, it will be fine, so don't worry-- it's not permanent. I'm sorry though, that does sound scary!

I am not a dr. by any means, only have a personal story. Went to Cancun in march and danced..literally..a total of 18 hours in a 24 hour period. In HUGE ass high heels. My Left big toe was numb for about 2 months. My friend who went with me, her Right big toe was numb for the same amount of time..(the friends who dance together, get numb together..haha..o.k..bad joke) anyway..it DID eventually go away. But I called the dr. and they said that we had neuropathy or whatever. they also said if you can put pressure on the area, it turns white and then release and it goes back to pink pretty quick, then you ARE getting good blood supply and that is at least a good sign. Sorry, most of this may have been addressed-don't have time to read the whole thread.

I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. I suggest always getting a second opinion. I was told I had a "spot" one my lung on a chest xray. (My father died of Lung Cancer just 3 months before that). I went to another doctor (friend of the family) and he showed it to specialists who right off saw it for what it was, scare tissue from an operation I had as a kid, coming through the xray image,...not on my lung at all. So.....get a second opinion before you do anything drastic.

I really feel a lot better.
I also went and bought some new, wider shoes today.
I hope it's nothing other than the nerve thing... sheesh. I'm only 18. lol
Not a time for health concerns.
Hopefully it will go away.
The shoes feel better than any I've worn in a long time. Think I finally got the size right.

I also have an app. with my chiropractor tomorrow (which I haven't seen in about a year) to make sure it's nothing in my spine or what-not.

I have been suffering numbness on and on for a few years, But as of late the numbness doesnt go away (Right now my right leg and hand are numb) my regular doc thought it was some type of arthritis but now it doesnt seem to be that (X-Rays on my spine yesterday showed my bone structure becoming straight, Instead of retaining the regular curvature it should have...Which could also be a major problem.)

Have yet another Dr. appt next Thursday morning...So not fun

I don't feel so bad when I read this.
I'm really sorry for everything you're going through.

I know I'm scared to death and it's probably just a pinched nerve or two.
I really really hope everything ends up okay for you.

I also think I'm a hypochondriac... I've googled everything from Diabetes to MS to Lupus and everything in between.
I'm a spaz.
