"Mirror In The Sky"
I've long loved this phrase from "Landslide," but only just now discovered that it also appears in Donovan's "To Try For The Sun" (I'm listening to Under The Skin). Donovan and Stevie even use it the same way, with the singer asking the mirror in the sky wisdom-seeking questions.

Quote:
Donovan's original: We stood in the windy city The gypsy boy and I We slept on the breeze in the midnight With the rain droppin' tears in our eyes And who's going to be the one To say it was no good what we done? I dare a man to say I'm too young For I'm going to try for the sun We huddled in a derelict building And when he thought I was asleep He laid his poor coat round my shoulder And shivered there beside me in a heap And who's going to be the one To say it was no good what we done? I dare a man to say I'm too young For I'm going to try for the sun We sang and cracked the sky with laughter Our breath turned to mist in the cold Our years put together count to thirty But our eyes told the dawn we were old And who's going to be the one To say it was no good what we done ? I dare a man to say I'm too young For I'm going to try for the sun Mirror, mirror, hanging in the sky Won't you look down what's happening here below? I stand here singing to the flowers So very few people really know And who's going to be the one To say it was no good what we done? I dare a man to say I'm too young For I'm going to try for the sun We stood in the windy city The gypsy boy and I We slept on the breeze in the midnight With the rain droppin' tears in our eyes And who's going to be the one To say it was no good what we done ? I dare a man to say I'm too young For I'm going to try for the sun Lindsey's cover version lyrics: "To Try For The Sun" (originally by Donovan) We huddled in the derelict building The gypsy girl and I We made our bed together With the rain and tears in our eyes And who will be the one To say it was no good what we done I dare anyone, dare anyone to say we were too young We were only trying for the sun Mirror, mirror in the sky Won't you look what's happening here below No one knows what's going on Can you give us a sign where to go And who will be the one To say it was no good what we done I dare anyone, dare anyone to say we were too young We were only trying for the sun this is a favorite for me - what Lindsey does to guitar parts here is sublime and so Lindsey. same as what he does with Love Minus Zero guitar parts.

Yes, but Donovan doesn’t sing it with a slight lisp....or whatever it’s called.

Thanks. "Mirror in the sky" is better than "Mirror hanging in the sky."
