I love this line as the opening words of the album and how this song kicks off the album. This is a song i love to blast on great speakers...

Friend is my favourite song on ITM and on my list of all time favourite Christine songs

I think it would have sounded great as the opener for SYW

Sigh!

Same here. "Friend" sounds exactly like a Fleetwood Mac song, far more than any of the songs on SYW. I think it was the best CM single since "Little Lies" & it's right up there with her 1970's era singles. Great song.

Do I remember you saying Robbie Patton wrote the words for Friend?

you're making me sad again!

but in all seriousness, i love this song as well. it's not my favourite on ITM (that distinction belongs to 'forgiveness'), but it places pretty highly!! and i agree it was a terrific way for her to open the album, i remember it grabbing me straight away from the start.

He did.

Friend is a great song. And her voice sounds terrific on it. Had it been released as a single in 1984, at the time of her previous solo album, it would have been a smash. In fact, ITM would have probably gotten amazing reviews all the way around. As it is, it's 2006 and I'm blissfully happy to have thhese twelve songs which I listen to again and again.

Although I'm hoping for another recording (covers, originals, unplugged, plugged, anything...) ITM would be a fine swan song for her career.

No, I don't think I ever said that. Patton does get a writing credit on the song, alongwith Chris, Dan Perfect & George Hawkins. I've never heard what each one of the four contributed to the song. In my opinion, those lyrics sound like Christine McVie lyrics. I suspect Chris was mostly responsible for the song with the other three adding a little here and there. Once again, this is something I would have liked to have asked Chris in that Q & A.

I agree. ITM is a great way to go out, but I hope she gets a little bored & starts writing again. I'd take anything...an album, iTunes tracks or something on her website...anything.

I thought I'd read on the credtis that he did. Maybe I was just deducing this because he'd written lyrics for her before. You are right in noting that the words sound like lyrics Chris could write. I was so certain I''d read he wrote them. Now I'm feeling moronic.

Don't feel moronic. I just checked the liner notes in the booklet & it doesn't say who wrote what. Chris has the first credit though. I'm not even sure that Robbie wrote lyrics with her before. They co-wrote "Hold Me", but I don't know who wrote what on that song either.

how does everyone feel about the acoustic version of 'friend' ? personally, i adore it, maybe even slightly more than the album version. there's something so endearing and sadly sweet about it.

I lost the acoustic version in my last crash. Anyone care to repost it?

I think Northern Star will always be my favorite. It's such a relaxing song.
