Default Uhh... Question...

Ok... Well, I posted on the "post- Rumours" forum asking about what post-BN era Mac album to buy, but, now I come here to ask the same question...

Which Peter Green- era Mac album would be the best bet for me?

I already have Mystery to Me (I worship that... lol) and I guess that starts off my Bob Welch era FM collection, but, alas, I have no Peter Green era Mac. Any suggestions for a newbie to that era? Thanks.

I would get the rest of the Bob Welch era albums first, if you don't have anything other than Mystery To Me. But, for Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac albums, I would say get Then Play On. It's really the first Fleetwood Mac rock album. It's NOT a blues album. For that I would get the Blue Horizon box set. There are 6 CDs in the box set and it's very economical considering how much music you actually get. The box set contains everything that Fleetwood Mac recorded for the Blue Horizon label. Once you have Then Play On & the Blue Horizon box set, you're set.

I pretty much agree with what macfan57 had to say about this. TPO is definitely ROCK! "The complete Blue Horizon sessions" box set is the smart buy for the blues stuff as you'd need to get that eventually anyways since there are many tracks on there that aren't available elsewhere so rather than buy those albums twice, you really are better saving up the 40 bucks or so and getting that box for the complete versions of those albums/sessions etc.

The only thing I repectfully disagree with is that there is still much great PG stuff to get beyond TPO and the CBHS box like the rocking "Live in Boston (vols. 1-3)", "The vaudeville years", "Show biz blues" etc. etc. etc.

Thumbs up I third that!

Just starting out on the PG-era FM with Then Play On is a TERRIFIC idea! It's the most pop/rock album, perfect for someone wanting to go back to that era coming from the Welch and SnL incarnations.

Bare Trees and Future Games are MUST HAVES as well.

I also have a question. Does the Blue Horizons Box contain the albums all on seperate CDs as if you bought them seperately or are they compiled into smaller sets?

Well...they're basically each album per disc...but there are bonus tracks, alternate takes & studio banter (think Beatles' Let It Be) that the original albums didn't have...so if you bought them individually, you wouldn't get the extras, which in addition to the great price of 6 CDs for the price of 3, they're 6 LONG PLAYING CDs.

The two that are the MOST different are:

Pious Bird of Good Omen: deletes the tunes taken from previous albums and the two Eddie Boyd songs and adds an interesting collection of alternate takes of "Need Your Love So Bad" and an early take of Danny Kirwan's "Like Crying" which eventually would show up on Then Play On

The Original Fleetwood Mac: adds alternate takes of "Fool No More" & "Watch Out, plus Danny Kirwan's "Something Inside Of Me, "Without You" and "One Sunny Day"...all three of which were on the US release of English Rose and the pre-"Oh Well" versions of Then Play On...plus, an early take of "Coming Your Way" a song that eventually would open the Then Play On album.

I got my Blue Horizon box at the Best Buy at the Pointe in North Fayette (near Robinson Town Center) for around $30. The last time I was out there they had a copy or two so check there, or any of the BB's around town, first. It's well worth it.
