Default Stevie's Nationality

I was wondering, just out of curiosity and boredom, if anyone knows what nationality Stevie is?

I'm mostly Irish, with some English, Welsh & French mixed in, but not a drop of Italian blood and I can tell you that I use my hands so much when I talk that you'd think I was using sign language! My entire family is like that-I think it's cultural more so than anything else and I guess my family was big on the body language!

Yeah, I always thought she was part German and maybe Irish. Maybe this is a question for "Ask Stevie".

Shanna, you're half of what I am! I'm German, Irish, Scottish, Native American, Basque, and Mexican.

This is an interesting topic. I'd guess that "Nicks" is British, that is, if this is the name that survived from the original from wherever her ancestors came from.

I wonder what her mother's maiden name is.

i remember reading in an "encyclopedia of rock" that her mother's maiden name was Meeks.

Hmmm....Stevie Meeks. Doesn't quite ring like a bell through the night, does it????

after my last post i decided to look up Barbara Meeks....what else, right? Found nothing until i added Stevie Nicks to it....here's an excerpt from a Billboard article:

Stephanie Nicks was born May 26, 1948, the daughter of General Brewing president Jess Nicks and the former Barbara Meeks. "My mother's mom and dad were divorced very early," says Stevie, "and her stepfather worked in a coal mine in Ajo, Arizona, and died of tuberculosis. She had a hard life, was very poor, was 19 when she got married, had me at 20. My dad went after a big job in a big company, got it, did very well, and liked to move around and travel a lot. My mom got used to it and had a lot of fun, but she's much more practical, frugal - she still sniffs her nose at my dad's and my experience tastes - and she wanted more than anything else for her daughter and son (Christopher) to be independent and self assured."

the question is....is Meeks the real father's last name or the stepfather's????

ay yi yiiiiiiiiiiii

No, it doesn't!

Ahhhh. Meeks doesn't sound German to me, perhaps another Brit line runs in her family (that would explain her obsession with Dickensian inspired street urchin fashion and the like). I dunno. It's hard to know what the original names of both her father's and mother's ancestors were. When people immigrated over here way back when, a lot of them changed their names or altered them for one reason or another. Whoever said this sounds like a good "ask Stevie" question was right!
