I'm a Glee fan as well - but the only song I've ever downloaded was Kurt & Blaine's rendition of Baby, It's Cold Outside. Anyway...I thought the Glee Rumours songs were all great, but especially Dreams, NGBA, and I Don't Want to Know. And I'm glad this album is getting some attention from a demographic that probably wasn't that familiar with it (if at all) - putting all the hype aside, it really is a great album.

Fleetwood Mac Spread Their Cokey Rumours All Over Glee
by Mof Gimmers on May 4, 2011 0 Comments

in Music News,News,TV News

Fleetwood Mac are more soap opera than band. They’ve taken so much cocaine that even listening to one of their LPs will erode your septum, leaving you looking like Michael Jackson in a sauna.

It is because of this that they still transfix us all. They’ve made some cool tunes, all had ill-advised sex with each other and generally disappeared up their own anuses for us all to titter at.

And now, they’ve made a little history (not seismic history you understand, rather, a slither of TV trivia) by becoming the first group to have an episode entirely devoted to one of their albums. Of course, no-one is stupid enough to devote a whole show to Tusk or Tango In The Night. We’re talking about Rumours, obviously.

The episode sees Schuester (Matthew Morrison) assigning his students the task of covering the whole album, which of course, sees the New Directions (comprised of Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Naya Rivera, Dianna Agron, Kevin McHale, guest star Kristin Chenoweth, Ronald Reagan’s ghost, a laughing tree, three eggs, a wistful cow and a rapping papier mache simian) singing ‘Dreams’, ‘Don’t Stop’ and ‘Go Your Own Way’ and the like.

All the while, the TV show couldn’t even hope to get close to the tension and ridiculous goings-on that surrounded the recording of the classic album.

The songs of love and betrayal may sound smoother than a freshly waxed leg, but rest assured, in those grooves, you’ve basically got a band that are spelling out just how much they hate each other. It’s not so much a cryptic tale of yearning and deceit, rather, a raw, open letter to each other telling each band member exactly how they feel.

And then there’s Mick Fleetwood’s testicles on the album cover. Amazing.

If you thought this album was omnipresent enough, then an appearance on Glee will introduce the group to a whole new generation of people, thereby ensuring that it will actually last forever, outliving mankind itself, to be latterly enjoyed by primate rulers in some bleak desolate land.

Rumours. The Rosetta Stone of our failing species.

Only thing that would've been better would've been Kurt singing You Make Loving Fun to Blaine. But maybe that would've been too risque for high school kids?

What is interesting about the charts is that IYD is number 5 on itunes for the deluxe edition. The regular CD is number 26. So it is charting on its own for both versions. If that were treated as one, what would it be?

My 7th and 8th graders were talking about "rumours" today in school. One of my students even wrote a poem about the episode from last night. It was so much fun today, my cooperating teacher and I talked to them about Lindsey and Stevie and what that did for Rumours. I told all of them to go out and listen to it tonight!

I really love Glee most of the time but, other than Dreams (which was awesome - Kristen Chenoweth rules!) and Go Your Own Way I didn't love it. It was all a little too cheesy. I know, I know, how can Glee be too cheesy... I dunno, I just didn't love it. I really liked that they included I Don't Wanna Know though and they made sure to point out the meanness of it! That song never gets enough attention.

From CNN, May 4, 2011:

http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05...was-fantastic/

Rumor has it 'Glee' Was Fantastic

Darn you "Glee."

Just when I thought I would make it through an entire episode without crying, you got me at the end of Tuesday night's episode.

It was Fleetwood Mac night because rumors were flying ("Rumours" happens to be the title of a famous Fleetwood Mac album) about everything from Santana's sexuality to whether or not Mr. Schuester was planning to desert the kids and pursue his dream of being a Broadway star.

The show started with a pretty funny bit about Brittany's online show "Fondue for Two," which I would totally watch if she really hosted said show. We also got to meet her fat cat Lord Tubbington, who I thought stole every scene he was in with his genius mix of disdain and ambivalence.

Kristin Chenoweth returned as the tipsy April Rhoades, who enlists Will in helping her put together a Broadway show about her life. The pair clearly have the hots for each other (he appears to have gotten over Holly pretty quickly) and they also give us a glimpse of what could be the fate of Finn and Rachel if they don't get it together soon.

Speaking of the latter pair, Rachel tries to get Finn to commit to doing a duet with her at nationals and shows him a blind item in the school's "Muckraker" paper which suggests that Sam and Quinn are fooling around behind his back.

When they stake out Sam, they see Kurt coming out of a motel room with him. Wow. I'd almost forgotten Kurt was back.

Anywho, there was more possible betrayal where that came from as they later caught Quinn coming out of the same hotel room with Sam and embracing him. Meanwhile, Artie accurately figured out that Santana has been making a play for Brittany and called Brit stupid for not figuring out Santana's manipulative ways.

Kudos to Heather Morris as Brittany for showing us some serious depth of feeling this week. Her tears and disappointment with Artie as they broke up was first-rate.

As was the actress Naya Rivera, whose portrayal of closeted Santana has far surpassed what I expected. She really got me when she sang a tender version of "Songbird" to Brittany.

But what really turned on the waterworks was the revelation that Sam and his family are living in one room in a motel since his dad lost his job and their house was foreclosed on.

Turns out Kurt and Quinn were just pitching in to help Sam out with clothes and caring for his younger brother and sister. I was bawling right along with Sam by the time Rachel and Finn showed up at the hotel with clothing for Sam and his guitar he had pawned to earn money for his family.

I had a whole ball of tissue in my hand by the time everyone - Sam's adorable little brother and sister included - gathered on the school stage to sing "Don't Stop." Well played, "Glee."

Your thoughts on this week's "Glee"?

Screen Crave, May 4, 2011
http://screencrave.com/2011-05-04/gl...urs-tv-review/

The series’ first episode to cover an album, this week’s “Glee” covers Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 release Rumours. But what happens when rumors spread amongst the New Directions members? Find out in our review…

The Players:

Director: Tim Hunter
Writer: Ryan Murphy
Cast: Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Naya Rivera, Jenna Ushkowitz, Mark Salling, Matthew Morrison, Ashley Fink, Chord Overstreet, Harry Shum, Jr., Jayne Lynch, Kristen Chenoweth, Josh Sussman, Lauren Potter

Episode Title: “Rumours”
Sue causes mischief by publishing libel in the school newspaper and April returns seeking Will’s help with her latest project on Broadway. Will has mixed feelings about leaving New Directions. The glee club gains a whole new respect for Sam when they discover some interesting new information about his family life.

The Good:
Rumors and Backstabbing: Yes, we’re categorizing this as good. Why? Because we saw the devastating affects that lies, rumors, and deception can cause. Not only is it an unnecessary distraction, as Kurt points out, rumors are difficult for us to ignore. We wonder if they are true, breeding jealousy and resentment and breaking one another’s trust.

Rachel Quips: While Rachel and Finn spy on Sam and Quinn, they discuss why Finn even dates Quinn if he doesn’t trust her–”because you forgive your first love anyway,” Rachel suggests. We’re not sure if that’s true, but it was thought-provoking nonetheless.

Sam’s Family: The tearjerker of the night, the glee club’s ability to let go of their petty grudges and come together in support of their fellow classmate was touching.

The Bad:
April, Sue’s Fourth Minion: We don’t care if she is just there for the protein placenta margarita, it’s awkward to watch her plot and plan Will’s future with the two people that hate him most (Sue and Terry) while he unknowingly helps her with her musical.

Santana: She can’t seem to get her priorities straight. What does she want more: the title of prom queen? Brittany’s love? to conceal her secret? Regardless of what internal struggles she is having, she should be honest Brittany instead of pulling her around.

The Music:“Dreams,” Fleetwood Mac – April and Will’s duet really showcased April’s voice with a soft lilt instead of a harsh, raspy sound. The performance was energetic to make us smile without being cheesy or distracting, too.

“Never Going Back Again,” Fleetwood Mac – Artie sings, Puck, Sam and others play acoustic guitars. It’s always nice to hear Artie’s soft tenor voice, whether rapping or singing, but what really made this song great was the instrumental aspect.

“Songbird,” Fleetwood Mac – Santana’s solo to Brittany. We should’ve known that one of the songs would be a “Britana” dedication since the last song Santana sang to Brittany was “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac.

“I Don’t Want to Know,” Fleetwood Mac – Finn and Quinn’s duet, which perfectly expressed how they feel about each other amongst a cloud of rumors and doubts in one another. Mr. Shue encouraged them to smile next time, but we loved it!

“Go Your Own Way,” Fleetwood Mac – Rachel’s solo, directed at Finn, was the usual heartfelt, belted Rachel Berry solo. She put some feeling into the song, but it didn’t stand out tonight.

“Don’t Stop,” Fleetwood Mac – New Directions sings this song, presumably to Sam to show him their support. It’s a well-harmonized piece that is cheery and uplifting.

Overall:This week’s “Glee” showcased a landmark album (for the first time ever!) and the New Directions members experienced first-hand the emotional grief, wasted time and jealousy that surrounds rumors.

Brittany is my favorite character. This line about her cat just cracked me up, and very much reminds me of my own fat cat.
