No secret that Gary Moore massively has adored Peter Green during his carrier. Mr Green was, somewhat, his mentor, and all this blues influence, after a hard rock/rock oriented carrier (Thin Lizzy, Solo albums), was visible in classic albums like "Still Got The Blues" (one of my favourite albums ever) and the various homages to Peter Green, the one posted here. I liked every single second of it. Gary Moore one of the greatest guitarist ever lived in my opinion.

I think that Gary Moore - in a lot of ways - was everything that Peter Green was not as a musician and a singer. Green's essence was restrained energy and thereby intense emotion - the same goes for his voice.
Gary was more rock and hardly any blues in my humble opinion.

Exactly!

Moore is feedback, technique and grimaces. He's flashy, but doesn't go deep. I guess he appeals to young guitar players, in particular. He's a good rocker, though. But he was temperamental, and occasionally rude to the audience.

But...... "Blues For Greeny" turned me on to the wonderful world of Peter Green.
So thank you, Gary!!

Not into Gary, but he was generous in his praise of Peter Green and of course a very competent player. I seem to recall the Still Got The Blues album almost started a blues revival in the early 90's. Rest in peace.

I actually, surprisingly to myself, enjoy it...

I agree, as you all say, Gary Moore was generous in his praise for Peter Green. A genuine fan, who helped promote him after years in oblivion. But I don't like Moore as a musician - didn't even like "Still Got The Blues" from the late eighties, when everybody loved it and it was played everywhere all the time for months on end.

I always thought it a pity that Gary played Green's guitar. He attacked the poor thing as if he was going to make matchsticks of it

Unfortunately the clip on Youtube of Gary and B.B. King playing "The Thrill is Gone" has been removed. Otherwise I would have posted it on this spot. Sad, because I actually liked Gary in that. It was as if B.B. had a restraining influence on him.

Yes, that's it. Thank you very much dansven and LeoL. Unfortunately the good one (both picture and sound) has disappeared from Youtube.

In this clip it really shows how different these two musicians are when it comes to tone and projection of feeling. B.B. King has more bluesfeeling in one note than Gary has in a string (of notes). Still something happens when they play together, and I choose to think that Gary's end note is "for Greeny"

This should perhaps be in a thread of its own...

I respect all artists for doing tribute to Peter Green.
Gary Moore, Bernie Marsden etc...

However, there are very few I find interesting.
A couple of exceptions must be Snowy White and Rory Gallagher on that "Peter Green Songbook" (aka "Rattlesnake Guitar") 2CD.
And of course The Beatles' "Sun King" is sweet, but that's not a cover...

I've also stumbled across some amateur recordings on Youtube which were good. But most stuff there is nothing to write home about.

Gary Moore's version of I Loved Another Woman on this (as an example )is not bad at all . I ,surprisingly ,found his playing quite expressive. and to be fair. he could have gone over the top and given his guitar a distorted tone on this song -but he didn't !
However ,I don't think his singing has the emotional depth of Peter's -you believe that Peter lived it ,( and he probably did !)
But watching Gary play on these clips did give me a thought :what would we be saying if Gary had played this backed by Mick and John Mc Vie It's all to easy to forget their impact on the overall effect . Peter backed by Mick and John and Danny was fantastic, but Peter without them ,I think ,was slightly less fantastic ?

Very good point!
Peter always gets (deserved) credit. And also Danny to some extent.
But many people - myself included - tend to forget that John and Mick is a rhythm section in its own class!

Danny complimented Peters guitar playing greatly. Mick and John were a good rhythm section for Peter. I'd loved to have seen Peter play with the likes of Keith Moon and John Entwistle. Not taking from Mick and John as their style is different but Moon and Entwistle were a power house.
