well, what I liked about Nero was that I was able to make some great medleys for my shows and it was fast and easy to do and sounded great.

Nope. I burn everything at a slower speed, too. Less errors that way.

David, I also have Record Now and it came with my PC. It is OK for CDs but not for DVDs. It won't even burn most of my DVDs. I bought a Roxio Easy DVD Copy software last April and I am pretty happy with it. It was around $50.00 but I am satisfied with it.

Well I have Microsoft Media Player, which for some reason doesn't record
CD-R but does do CD-RW.

So I switched to Sonic Burn, it pops up when I put in a blank CD, fairly easy I just move the songs from my playlist into the copy box and hit burn. I think it can also do a straight burn form CD to another CD, but I usually like to mix'n match, so haven't tried the straight burn yet...

Wow - I've always burned at either 24x or 48x & have never had a problem - unless the people I've traded with never told me, that is. I have a few discs that won't burn at all unless I burn at 24x or slower, but for the most part I'm all about the speed, baby. Esp. for a large trade.

BTW - Roxio is now working without any problems. After like 5 months of not working at all.

Roxio was giving me a hard time for a while (error mesages) and then I got a lens cleaning kit and it cleared everything up. It doesn't sound exactly like your problem, but I suppose you can never underestimate the power of a good cleaning!

Weird...I use Stomp Record Now Max for DVDs, and have absolutely no problems. For audio I use CDRWin or Nero.
