Lightbulb SYW, best album of all time?

I think Say You Will might be my favorite Fleetwood Mac CD. It's weird because I wouldn't have thought it would be, I actually dreaded even listening to it thinking I would hate it so much.

I have been listening to it non-stop lately. Even with Christine gone I think it works. Songs I didn't like at first I have grown to absolutely love. I think it's completely crazy that I think this though!

There's no real Christine.

There's not as many harmonies, just echoing each other (as someone mentioned before).

I don't like the last 2 songs.

It took me a long time to like a lot of the songs.

Yet I love this CD. I love their matured voices. I love the order of the songs. I love that it is so different then anything they have done before, IMO.

Anyone else feel this way, or am I the only one?

best album of all time? Certainly not.

I do applaud the band for getting back together. At that time I was elated they were making another studio record. When I heard Christine was out... I was skeptical. I still like Say You Will, but it's so convoluted and... messy. I almost wish they had just released it as the 2-CD album it was originally envisioned. It's a hot mess, and I think they were attempting to do a Tusk Redux in some ways...but comes nowhere near the brilliance of Tusk.

I think Tango in the Night, Rumours, Tusk, The Dance, the White album, and possibly Mirage are all superior to Say You Will.

Haha yes. Thought that title would grab people's attention
I would definitely agree that The Dance is superior, but Mirage?

I'm sure there are many who feel the same way. Not sure why I love it so much, maybe it's just a phase

love SYW, although i'd drop almost all stevie's songs and say goodbye, and WTWCT... no wonder almost none of the stevie fans like it!

i'd rate SYW together with Tusk, and way ahead of Mirage and Tango.

but i'd still like better original GOS...

EDIT: The Dance doesn't count - it's the live album, like LiB

To be honest, I tend to forget that this album exists!

Without Christine, it just doesn't quite intrigue me. I don't really care for Stevie's "new" voice that seemed to emerge after the Dance. In general, Lindsey's songs are never my favorite.

I feel it was important that the album was made, i.e. that FM went on despite Christine's absence. Does that make sense?

I'll check the songs more closely on Youtube, though.

Gypsy and Hold Me are better than anything we got off Say You Will.

Thrown Down I think is the true gem of Say You Will... the rest I'm in a love/hate relationship with.

Yeah I still dislike Say Goodbye and Goodbye Baby but I love WTWCT!
The only reason I might count The Dance is because of Temporary One and Sweet Girl and I love those songs!

That makes perfect sense. It takes me a while to get into Lindsey's songs but then I end up loving them. Only one I don't like on SYW is Say Goodbye.

I really do love some of the songs on SYW... but I just don't think it's a great album. The absolute polarity of Lindsey & Stevie on Tusk was balanced out by the bridge that was Christine. SYW is like Tusk, only minus the bridge. So it comes across as combative & schizophrenic. Stevie definitely brought her best material to the table since Mirage (yes, I'm counting Behind The Mask). But it just had no relation or commonality to Lindsey's material. I think this stepping stone was one that was necessary to happen, though. I think Stevie & Lindsey needed to trip, fall, and bloody themselves up. And hopefully they'll be better for it on the next album. And I truly do think there will be one more 'next album.'

Thrown Down, along with Illume, Say You Will and Destiny Rules were my favorite off the CD when I first heard it. Gypsy is an amazing song but they only one I really love off Mirage, which is why I would rank SYW above it.

I love most of SYW. The only tracks I skip are Silver Girl, Say Goodbye & Goodbye Baby. But the two bonus tracks make up for those in my eyes.
