Default Don’t Stop

Don’t Stop was played at Republican National Convention last night by the band Sixwire. It was an instrumental and was after J. D. Vance’s acceptance speech for Vice President. Sixwire has been playing numerous classic rock songs in between the speeches. I thought would they dare play a Fleetwood Mac song? Then I thought Don’t Stop would be perfect song for the mood of this convention. And when Sixwire started playing Don’t Stop I was absolutely ecstatic. Just letting you know.

What a shameful use of a McVie classic. This is a result of selling your catalogue. Does copyright include ****ty covers?

Subtle way of invoking Clinton for the undecideds.

Sigh.... Let that woman rest in peace. Those are some evil people leading the charge of inhumanity.

I've heard it played at a Conservative party conference here in the UK in the past, although not by a band.

My thoughts on the current incarnation of the Republican party do not bear repeating and would probably break Ledge rules if I did so. All four surviving members are now US citizens and I think only John has publicly stated he was for the GOP in the past. Stevie recently made a comment along the lines of " it doesn't matter who you vote for, just vote!". I suppose she didn't want to alienate some of her fans, but you know what, Stevie, it does kind of matter who you vote for. That's the whole point.

Im pretty sure it’s been reported here that both John and Christine said they didn’t vote for Bill Clinton. That doesn’t mean they would have voted for Trump, though. Stevie and Lindsey seem very liberal; from comments she has made, it’s obvious whom Stevie voted for in 2020, while Lindsey has performed at fundraisers for Democratic candidates in the past (not necessarily someone running for President, but other political offices). Mick I’m not sure about but I would bet is a Democrat.

Chris actually said she *would* have voted for clinton if she could vote, and so did Mick, although i don't think he ever became a citizen?? Lindsey said he did vote clinton, and John said at the same interview that he did not. this was all in that 1993 interview before the gala.

i cannot see john voting trump but i suppose that's unknown. (his daughter and SIL most definitely would not lol.) the party has changed a lot.

Christine didn't vote for Bill Clinton or George HW Bush in 1992 because she wasn't (and so far as I know never became) an American citizen. John and Mick became US citizens, but I think retained their UK citizenship as well.

Edit- you got there first, Lis, thanks. Shouldn't you be "Penguin Emerita" like Nancy Pelosi, btw?

I caught this too, and thought it was great. It still works. Got to show my GF the 1993 version too. She didn't know about the Clinton connection.

I think it is a joint account made for Lis and Marty, the former owners of the site. So if we're being pedantic perhaps it should be "Penguins Emeriti." But user handles can't or won't be changed, as Steve MacD and Homer McVie will attest.

There was the 1995 online chat interview where she said she was honored Clinton used the song but would have never voted for him.

Many artists will defend their music when someone they dont like politically uses it. Tom Petty told Trump to stop using I Wont Back Down, The Stones told Trump no too. Heart immediately told Sarah Palin to stop using Barracuda. Apparently that was her nickname when she played basketball in high school. Rush told Rand Paul to stop using their songs. Rand Paul is supposedly a huge Rush fan.
I got a kick out of John Fogerty endorsing Al Gore and giving him permission to use Fortunate Son. John even campaigned with Al. 2 years later George Bush reveled his Ipod music playlist and it was full of John Fogerty music.
