Very Surprising Radio Sighting
I was flipping thru the stations today, as I was getting dressed, and I got a huge shock when I buzzed past our local "new & classic rock" station (102.5 WDVE), and heard "BARE TREES!"
I happened upon it right near the beginning of the song, so I got to listen to it nearly in its entirety... with a big smile on my face the whole time. That particular station plays all the typical Mac tunes: "Rhiannon," "The Chain," "Go Your Own Way," etc., as well as Stevie's "Edge Of Seventeen," "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," and "Stand Back"... and on occasion they'll play "Hypnotized" or "Oh Well"... but it was a total shock to hear "Bare Trees!" After the song, the DJ back-announced it as "a very early Fleetwood Mac tune - about four albums before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined the band."

Johnny Stew,
I know what you mean. We have one true 70s/80s classic rock station, K103 which just started up around 1996 otherwise the nearest rock station was 75 miles away, poor reception. I think K103 is a nationally syndicated radio show which translates locally and only cuts in for local commericials and news. Anyway, they used to do three peat rock blocks on Thursday, the Pink Floyds, Led Zeppelin, Heart and Fleetwood Mac, and they would include some of the less played songs. I happened to catch "Bare Trees" one evening and remember how surprised & excited I was. They also used to have a show called 'The Psychadelic Supper', which would feature bands like King Crimson, Wish Bone Ash and yes, FM, the two they did one night were "Bright Fire" amd "I'm So Afraid". Those songs really drew me further into Fleetwood Mac fandom! Last edited by greenfire; 02-09-2004 at 08:18 PM.. |

I'm jealous!
I have heard Bare Trees on Music Choice a couple of times, but never have heard it on the radio.
I hear Sentimental Lady on the tiny station in Weatherford, Texas occasionally. Those are the only pre-Rumours songs I have heard outside of on CD.

I'm from Pittsburgh, PA, and I was absolutely shocked when I heard Bare Trees on our other classic rock station, 96.9 Channel 97. It was on Christmas day, and after it was over, I put 100.7 on and they were playing EO17. Pittsburgh is pretty cool when it comes to playing FM on the radio .

Hi Kate!
Funny you should mention 96.9 WRRK, because I was just going to post that today while I was listening, the DJ (Judge) came on and said, "We're getting some calls from folks wanting to know what the instrumental we played earlier was. That's actually Fleetwood Mac's original version of 'Oh Well'...." (They usually play the Rockets' 1979 cover version.) Then he went on to explain that the first part of the song has the lyrics (he even sang a bit of them!), and then he said, "and the next six minutes or so is instrumental." He added that it's a great tune, and he's glad people were showing interest in it! And you're right, Kate... Pittsburgh stations are pretty good to Fleetwood Mac fans, and especially if you're a Stevie fan.

We have a new classic rock station in the Dayton area. One night, I was driving home from a friend's gig, and heard "Oh Well" from the Boston Tea Party set. That's about as obscure as I've heard, not counting the local blues show that used to be on a few years ago. They'd play lots of early Mac on that station.
