Smile Misheard Lyrics

Nothing to do with Fleetwood Mac but when Desmond Decker sang My Israelites some people thought he was singing My Ears are alight!

Which is actually a lot better

In Illume, I always heard "I am a good swimmer" instead of "I am a cliff dweller".

I also heard "She was just a witch!" in Gypsy.

And in Temporary One, I have always heard the word "sizzlin'" in the chorus instead of "The sea that divides us is a".

"At least give me time to make you mine" in SYW when I heard it in a commercial before it came out on record.

From Gypsy, "to a room with some lace and paper flowers" I heard: "with sunlight and paper flowers."

And when I first heard Lindsey's songs on Tusk I was like, "WTF is he saying?!?!?!" I had to grab the lyrics and fast.

Oh yeah, and in Miranda I always heard, "and the sun goes down in Reno" instead of "on the marina" or whatever it is.

That reminds me! I thought it was "Lights shot out in the arena." (i.e., the violent destruction of the stage, performing, and the illusion of fame itself as the "safety zone"). So much for that theory!

"Go Your Own Way" For a long time, I heard 'You can call it another lonely day' as 'You can call it under, but don't you dare'...

(In my defence, crap cassette player, yer honour).

And then there's "Rhiannon", live. Ok... now. Come clean. Who actually managed to figure out what in Heaven's name she was singing in the second chorus without a) comparing several other versions, b) checking online or c) playing it over and over till it clicked?

The line in question being, of course, "Once in a million years a lady like her / rises / 'Rhiannon' you cry, but she's gone and your life / knows no answer..."

It took me until the Stevie Nicks in Corncert video came out at the beginning of the '80s before that lyric clicked.

And if that's easy, how about the screams at the *end* of the version on "Live"?

In Stevie's performances of Sisters of the Moon, most notably the Mirage HBO concert, there is a moment in the song where I hear her growl "ahh ooh ahh arg ah ooh ahoo aarrrr!"

With a more careful listen I now know exactly what she was saying: "ahh ooh ahh arg ah ooh ahoo aarrrr!"
