Default If Chris really had retired in 1970 ...

After Christine Perfect made her solo album, left Chicken Shack, and married John McVie, she briefly retired from music before being pulled into Fleetwood Mac. If she really HAD retired, how would she be remembered today?

I think that people would be very interested in her because of her pioneering role in the history of women in popular music. She was one of the very few women in a popular music group in the '60s who not only sang but also wrote songs and played an instrument. I think she might actually get MORE credit for her contributions to the history of women in rock if she had retired at that time than she actually does get. Critics would be more likely to view her career as a significant step forward in the evolution of women's role in popular music, if that part of her career wasn't totally overshadowed by her megastardom in one of the most successful groups of the '70s.

By the way, how brief was that retirement before she joined FM?

Hmm...interesting question. She was totally unique during that time because she was a musician. I can't think of any female musician from the 1960's except for her. Since she worked only in the U.K. & Europe, I think she'd be pretty much unknown here in the U.S. However, she did have a bit of an "underground" cult following in the U.K. & Europe & she had gained the respect of ALOT of people over there as a blues artist.

Her brief "retirement" in 1970 lasted less than 3 months. If she had retired then, I think Fleetwood Mac would have ended & all anyone would remember of Fleetwood Mac would be the Peter Green era.

I think it would have been one those "whatever happened to ..." sort of moments.

I think Fleetwood Mac would have carried on but wihtout much success.

Maybe Chris and John would have had a family, who knows?

Fleetwood Mac was MOST DEFINITELY the better she decided not to retire.

Hmmm that's an unthinkable for me.... The flavor of the band would have such a more generic feel... She was one of the main characters of this movie.....
