Most blues songs follow one of four patterns and there are almost no variations from that handfull of patterns
Technically, ok, I'll bite, a little...but blues is such an EMOTIONAL art form, variation is infinite depending on the individual's playing. Clapton, Peter Green, Buddy Guy, etc, would probably not be as agreeable to your comment as I am!

I'm not saying that...I am well aware that the emotion playts a big part of blues. Are you saying that Lindsey lacks the emotional power for the style? The main thrust of my argument is that Lindsey is a 'Been there-Done that' type of guy. It's evident in the huge difference between Tusk and Rumours, and even his solo albums. They do retain a basic style, but he rarely does things identical, say like The Rolling Stones' preference for open C tuning and Kieth Ritchards predictable solo's. (for any Stones fans out there, I apologize, but the man does play the same solo over and over again to a degree. I do like Gimme Shelter.)
Besides, this is a theoretical situation for a jam session. Neither person would hold the other to their style. They'd integrate the two in a neat style. |

I don't see LB as much of a blues player either. I wasn't all that keen on his 1980 rendition of "Oh Well" off of the FM Live album. Wretched.
In fact, he was moved from guitar to bass while playing in Fritz b/c his guitar style wasn't a bluesy sound. The only blues player i'd like to see him play with is Peter Green, just because i think it would be interesting to see LB get blown away while trying to play the blues. To me, LB's best "bluesy" song is "I'm so afraid" I think his style would blend better with a guy like Mark Knofler, who uses a fingerpicking style as well. Also, Al Dimeola would be cool. |

I agree. I see Lindsey as a rock and roller. The people who he always mentions as influences are folksy-rock, never any blues. It ain't his THANG, you know.
As far as the emotion, he sure has a handle on that, and he's had enough life experiences that could definitely apply to the blues, but he's just a rockin' man. He likes to be out front doing what he does. Maybe he doesn't care to really work with others that way.

I just was listening to Prince's "Sign O' The Times" album.
I'd love to hear a live version of Fleetwood Mac doing "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man". That would rock!!

Ugh...Prince. What about Neil Young, or anyone from the CSN and Y group? (Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young for those that are wondering.)
You know, streaming media is weird...I went from listening to Hendrix's 'All Along the Watchtower' to America's 'Horse with No Name' Odd... |

I like the Prince song idea, Steve. That's a perfect song for Mac to try live.
I would like to have seen Lindsey play with Chet Atkins or Merle Travis -- maybe something off "Folk Songs of Our Hills." |

MikeD- Prince was the **** back in the 80's with albums like Controversy, 1999, Sign O' the Time and, of course, Purple Rain.
In 1984, it appeared as though LB was somewhat influenced by Prince. Go Insane has similarities to Prince's stuff from that time. LB even had the Prince look back then. |

Concerning the Blues (which I like)...my brother is a pretty decent musician. He plays guitar and (mainly)drums. He has always stated that the Blues can definitly be a boring style of music to play, for the rhythm section especially....I am not a musician so I couldn't comment, myself.
take it easy....
