Don't know what to say about this rambling. I hope the misnomer The Kennedy's was not Stevie's mistake. An apostrophe signifies the possessive case of a pronoun: The Kennedy's mansion. The CD's case. The Farmer's Daughter.

When there is no possession of the noun, there is no apostrophe: The Black Keys. My CDs. Your books. The movies.
It's an pervasively common mistake. For anyone who respects the integrity of proper grammar and communication, seeing the misuse of the apostrophe is like nails on a chalkboard.

The Kennedy’s

I had a fragile dream
In a great house in the Hamptons
I’d been there before
Singing songs ~ doing benefits
I was in a room alone
Putting on my make-up
Like so many things have come to me,
The dress ~ came across the Persian carpet~
As I fell into the dress
A thought came to me
Into my heart~
“I have a dream”
And a door opened~
It’s time now~ they’re waiting
I turned around to face the music (the dreamers)
“I’m ready for the Kennedy’s~”

I don’t know if it was 1960 or 1963
Everything was timeless ~ even me
I wasn’t old~ I wasn’t young~
I was just ~ part of the dream.
A shadow walked with me ~ down the hall
It was Martin Luther King~
All in shadow ~ all before me
Overwhelmed by destiny
Someone said, “sing us a song”
“There’s the piano..
And handed me a drink~
The room was full of hope~
A song would set them free…

I sat at the piano
I stared at the shadows
I sang the words “I have a dream”
He wasn’t my old friend John ~ I didn’t know him…then
But he smiled at me
And I sang these words
“What ever it takes to be free”
I didn’t know these men~
But they knew me~

It was all symbolic,
Nothing was as it seemed.
They all left us in a single shot~
But they didn’t take the dream.
They were there in that house,
Discussing the future~
Drinking champagne.
I was just the piano player~
The voice ~ part of their dream.
I was 35 ~ or maybe I was 15~
It was just a night in the presence
Of Martin Luther King~
I was just a dreamer;
I was ready for the Kennedys…

I got up from the piano
I bowed my head
As I walked thru the room
They touched my hands
Write about hope and a change of plan~
Light up the world if you can~

Light the fire ~ start it over
Tell the world about the dream
Change the world ~ begin again
Start it up ~ make it real~
Back in the room where it all began
My heart began to hurt~

I remember the beauty of the Hamptons
The shadows playing in the sun
And a voice said “The dream is not over~”
“The dream has just begun~”
I spun around to another shadow
Slipping through the door~
My eyes opened ~ wide …
What is all this for?
The shadows said ~ “Don’t forget ~”
“What we were fighting for…”
I hope this doesn't get put to music.

I don't know if that's the case, but in Latin countries it's traditional to title literary works with a genitive that states the subject of the work; "The Kennedy's" would mean "The Kennedy's song" with "song" implied.
Or it's just a mistake, but I can see Stevie being this matronly.

Did Stevie write that poem? I thought John made it up to entertain us.

Hahaha I wish I was that creative! But it came straight from la Nicks herself: http://rockalittle.com/message_jan20_2009.htm

The poem is a little rambly, but there are some pretty good lines in it and I do like the nod to Straight Back. I never envisioned the poem for "Soldier's Angel" working as a song but she pulled it off, so hopefully if she does record this she will keep the essential parts, write a great chorus, and axe the rambling. Bug we shall see!

yes but that would mean "the song the Kennnedys wrote / own"

if you just mean the Kennedys, plural, as in all the Kennedys, or all the Kennedy brothers, there is no apostrophe, just the 's'. Putting an apostrophe before the 's shows ownership.

It is Stevie's song about the Kennedys.

You know, I have only just discovered The Forest Of The Black Roses and I think it's utterly spellbinding. I think Stevie could still sing this song superbly.

Is this one of the "Rhiannon songs"? I've always avoided them like the plague as the whole project just seems so... lame. But if the songs are all of this quality...

Yes, that's what I was saying.
In Latin countries genitive is used also to indicate the content of the work... I don't know how to explain it, but a poem titled "The Kennedy's" would be equal to "The poem about the Kennedys" because it's dedicated to them, and if it's dedicated to them then they "own" it.
By the way, if you don't recognize it it means that Saxon languages doesn't have this use and it's probablyly a typo.

Chris! You're not going to bestow the honorific "poem" on that, are you?

Yes, it's one of the Rhiannon songs. The only other songs that have been "officially" categorized as Rhiannon songs (that have been in circulation) are "Maker Of Birds" and "Forsaken Love". Both are also extremely gorgeous. Especially "Forsaken Love" which is one of my all time favorite demos. You should check both of those out. You won't be sorry!

According to Stevie, there are 10 or 11 songs that she has written for the "Rhiannon" project. "Stay Away" and "Melacine" (Water Witch) have been speculated to be songs from this project but I'm not sure what has been confirmed and what hasn't.
