Eyes of the World
One of my favorite of the man's songs. Definitely my favorite of his on Mirage (not an entirely huge feat) but I tend to go through phases with his songs, FM and solo, and yet the love for this one never goes away.
Sooo, I ask, what is your favorite version of "Eyes of the World"? I know it's not as fun/easy as some of the older songs due to a relatively shorter live life but still, there's never too few or too many versions to be discussed! I think my favorite version is the live one from Live in Boston, one of the few tracks I immediately took to from that collection. Just so full of energy and exciting and awesome and I love the drum and guitar intro that they used to replace the Christine/Lindsey vocal tennis match. Close runner up is the demo from Mirage, not the one that has Stevie singing "Enchanted" in it too, but the pretty clean one where Linds does some real hot "oh oh ohhhh"s. Mmm mmm good. I like the mirage concert version the best.
I would have to say, that FM/Linds should def! do this live on the next tour, i think its much better live overall than on Mirage. JMO. [And Im a Mirage freak. haha] |

I'm going to go with:
1. Album version 2. Mirage video 3. SYW tour versions It's one of my all time favorites, too. Don't get me wrong, I understand where the "Stephanie" comments are coming from, but I don't have a problem calling them 2 different songs.

I never put those two together....
Can you tell me more? I never realized it before, but they do sound alike. |

Well much like Tango in the Night's version of "Big Love" sounds like "Doing What I Can" from Out of the Cradle...he just borrowed elements of each song and re-used it. Lindsey is well known for doing that...no secret there!

I knew he recycled lyrics. He recycles music too? A nice lady (Lauren?) at the Denver concert told me that and tried to give me some examples...she said that there is a part in GYOW that is repeated elsewhere. Can you or someone give me other examples...I'd be interested in hearing & studying them. |

but def "Stephanie" and "Eyes of the World" are similar "Big Love" (From Tango) and "Doing What I Can" are similar I think the guitar solos on Frozen Love (Buckingham Nicks), I'm So Afraid, Murrow are all strinkingly similar.

Thought ChiliD had mentioned in a thread...long, long, ago, and far, far away...something that Lindsey said, he was stealing from himself...or something. I will have to do a search and see if I can find that thread. I think it had specific examples, and I just wasn't all that interested at the time I read the thread.

I cant think of anything off the top of my head, other than what i listed above. I'd say 'Under the Skin' was the first time I felt like he did something moderately different than previous work.

At the Soundstage taping, Lindsey did an impromptu guitar solo for Murrow, which was the same as his guitar solo from ISA and he said, "I am stealing from myself." However, I think he was just talking about that solo, not about his songs in general. Michele |

to me, it feels like all of the solos have hints of the go your own way "passage"/"riff". even more so during live performances.
it's like a default melody he goes to, but in different styles/phrasing, speeds, and keys. part of it is probably muscle memory from playing everything 10-gajillion times. he can't exactly get up and say he's tired certain songs, but i know i would be. i'm not trying to say he's lazy about it, but i think his attention during these particular times is more directed at how the crowd is seeing him.
