I agree. Does anyone know if this was a licensing issue, or did they just choose not to use it? Eva's version is second only to the original, IMO.

I don't think they were actually aware of it until the album was nearly ready and by then it was too late.

Mick has been quoted as saying Christine loves Eva Cassidy's version.

It is definitely better than Jewel's! I can't speak for the Rumours Tribute take. I have a few versions; this one is listed as single vocal version, but I don't think there's much of a difference between that and the regular one. The other mix I have is an extended version.

I guess I am the only one that loves D.S.'s Songbird. I think it's gorgeous.

Actually, I didn't think it was bad, either. But, overall, I hated the tibute album.

There's a much better tribute album to the band, in general, called "Fleetwood Mac: Patron Saints of Pop," where all the band's songwriters (excepting Jeremy Spencer, Bill Burnette, David Walker, David Mason, Rick Vito, and Becka Bramlett) are represented. The majority of the songs are covered by energetic indie bands. Highly recommended.

Oh, thank you, thank you! It's fun! Love the synths. And you know, beneath all of the 80s style production, it's a pretty close reading of the original song.

Anyone have other Chris covers to download?

Funny you should think it's 80s style -- it was recorded the same year as the original! It's from '77. It is pretty close, yeah. She got paid to sound like the original. Something like 12 bucks...

Wow! This is so interesting. Was her cover on one of those cheesy muzak records?

And, yes, I thought this was bonified 80s production.

lol, no, thankfully not. She was singing in cover bands at the time, and recorded some tracks for this little hole in the wall studio to make a few bucks. I wish I knew what they were used for or what they other songs were. It was just a single, and I don't think it was officially released until about 1988 and that was only in Japan.

We can't forget the Camper Van Beethoven's Tusk versions of Christine's songs. Even more obscure - the other Fleetwood Mac (1997) tribute album "Patron Saints of Pop." It was all random covers of various songs by a bunch of unheard of alternative rockers. There was one song by Christine on it: "Never Make Me Cry," covered by Spiroon. Anyone ever heard of him, them, it?

Most definitely. I have that cover on the Fleetwood Mac: Patron Saints of Pop cd. It's the only Chris song covered, and it's given a very tongue-in-cheek treatment. I laughed out loud when I first heard it, and this version still makes me smile.

Rosie Thomas covered Songbird on her last album.
I'll post it a bit later.
My fave Chris covers are Willie Nelson's Songbird and Jewel's You Make Loving Fun.
