Should she also get in based on the strength of ONE album? I don't know. Just because I don't agree with you, it doesn't make me clueless.

GERRY GOFFIN AND CAROLE KING
Year inducted: 1990
Induction category: Non-Performer
Carole King had a bunch of hits and deserves to be in the RHOF for CERTAIN. I mean there's NO argument. https://www.billboard.com/articles/c...d-hot-100-hits
She had 5 big hits! Please.

1, "It's Too Late"/"I Feel the Earth Move" (No. 1, five weeks, 1971)
2, "Jazzman" (No. 2, 1974)
3, "Nightingale" (No. 9, 1975)
4, "Sweet Seasons" (No. 9, 1972)
5, "One Fine Day" (No. 12, 1980)

AND she's sold 75 MILLION freaking albums. Most successful female songwriter in HISTORY. 118 pop hits.

Also at LEAST 3 albums in the top ten.

You are 100 percent right about Carole King. That Nick is not musically educated or has chiffon blocking his eyes and ears.

What about the songs:
You got a friend
Natural woman
Where you lead

These songs are classics she wrote made famous by other people.

She actually had about 100 songs be hits for other people but I'm not counting that because that's why she's in as a songwriter.

The president deservedly awarded Carole the Gershwin in 2013, an award that surely outstrips the increasingly cringeable RARHOF.

That's an award that Stevie would never get for her solo career, even if a Clinton was president.

Edit: And of course Christine was bestowed with the Ivor Novello lifetime achievement award, which is just as awesome and befitting as Carole's Gershwin.

There is no way to lend logic to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Its the reason people cant stand it. IMHO of course someone as talented and commercially successful as Carole King deserve to be included over acts like Janet Jackson or Madonna. IMHO Janet Jackson cant really sing and all of her music is written and directed by other people. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have always created clever riffs and pop hits. Having said all of that, I believe the album "Janet" from 1993 was one of the best albums of the entire 90's decade.
I hated the hall when the stopped including only rock acts. The name should be changed to the Pop hall of fame. There are so many great rock acts that still have not been inducted. Pat Benatar, Def Leppard, Styx - the list could go on forever. Any of these acts are far more deserving than Janet Jackson who became a pop star because of her brother's fame and a duo who is famous for creating 31 top 20 hits of pop stars.

How Pat Benatar has not been inducted really shows how bogus the entire process is. She is rock, she has multiple platinum albums, huge hits, and was a pioneer in rock history.

Some say Janet has been really influential and that Rhythm Nation changed pop music forever. Madonna was a big game changer too and a massive success. Pat Benatar on the other hand was pretty ordinary in her day. Fully agree about Carole King though, if anyone should be in the hall it is her.

I agree. The real fans are genuinely happy, but these crybabies sometimes get the best of me. All of a sudden we are forced to read the career accomplishments of Carole King. Ugh.

Even Martika did a better version of “I feel the earth move”. Haha.

So I posted the above after coming home with a little too much holiday cheer from a party I was at. Eggnog with Baileys... yum last night, but not so much this morning. Black coffee, please. I am really happy Stevie was inducted as a solo artist - but it doesn't really matter to me that she's the first female to be inducted twice. I mean..

Tina Turner and Carole King! I had no idea that they weren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their solo careers - I guess I just assumed they were. I mean the "Private Dancer" and especially "Tapestry" albums alone should have sealed the deal with these ladies. Two of my favorites records of all time. I've seen Tina in concert six times (once when Lindsey opened for her which was cool) and she danced longer and harder than her much younger dancers up on that stage. And I only saw Carole King once with James Taylor and she was so very good. I've seen the musical "Beautiful" twice and it is a remarkable tribute to all the beautiful music she created.

I also can't believe Warren Zevon, the Doobie Brothers, Joe Cocker and Todd Rundgren aren't in the hall. At least Todd was in the discussion this year.

Happy Holidays and play nice, at least until January.

If the goat floats, it is a witch, and sold its soul to the devil. If it sinks, it is not a witch, and therefore has a soul.
