Default Ten Favorite Danny Kirwan Songs OF ALL TIME

What are your ten favorite Danny Kirwan songs of all time (Mac, solo, etc all included)?

Imagine paying $1000 to hear "Don't Dream It's Over" instead of "Go Your Own Way"

Fleetwood Mac helped me through a time of heartbreak. 12 years later, they broke my heart.

Dragonfly
Without You
Something Inside of Me
Dust
Woman of 1000 Years
Second Chapter
Spaceman
Sands of Time
Silver Streams
World in Harmony

If Station Man counts as a Danny song, I'd include that. Likewise Look Around You, the Danny solo tune written by Dave Walker.

I've always wondered about this song, whether it really was written by Dave Walker (despite the fact it is credited to him - although I don't own a physical copy of the album I assume it is credited on the album?).

Although a very simple song it reminds me more of Kirwan's songwriting. There is a certain sensitivity to the song that we've seen through Kirwan's music and not through Walker's.

Is it possible that Kirwan wrote the song and gave the credit to Walker in the same way Ella Holley shares the songwriting credit on Buddy's Song? Maybe Kirwan felt that Walker had been unfairly treated by FM in the same way he had?

Or am I looking for something that isn't there????

Dave Walker was asked about that song in the Q & A here. He said:

Thanks for your e-mail. Good questions. The band that perhaps suited me best was the Idle Race because I was not required to be lead singer all of the time and was able to develop vocal harmony skills that were never used in subsequent bands, eg. Fleetwood Mac, whose vocals were monopolized by Christine and Bob Welch. They may say words to the opposite but I was never given the chance. Hungry Fighter was in existance in early 1974 and only played one gig at the University of Surrey, Guilford, England. The band did not maintain because perhaps we were not focused enough musically, and in addition, Danny Kirwan's problems were just starting and this made communication extremely difficult. The song Look Around You, on Danny's album is indeed mine and I was flattered when a musican of his quality thought to include it. Hope this has answered your questions.

Quite a sensitive song then for Walker. Compare it to The Derelict or Denim Demon:
Going to Arizona to a place I love so well
Cactus must be twelve feet high, the sun is hot as hell
Pack a pair of Levi's, as much wine as I can
'Cause I'm called the Denim Demon I'm a devil of a man

The thing about "Look Around You" is that Danny never wrote a lyric as advanced as that, and not too many lyrics with a socially-aware "point" like those either. I think maybe Danny put his stamp on the music though, as it fits in very well with the rest of the album. It is indeed credited to Dave Walker on the album - actually it's usually credited to "Danny Walker" but we'll gloss over that

In the Q & A they mentioned it was credited to "D. Walker" and asked Dave if that was him and he said it was.

Without looking at the albums..
Tell Me All the Things You Do
Coming Your Way
Woman of 1000 Years
Sands of Time
Bare Trees
Danny's Child
Sunny Side of Heaven
Life Machine
Jewel Eyed Judy
Spaceman
Child of Mine

..11! Okay. I should listen to Trinity again though I remember being so excited about it when I bought 25 Years: The Chain and then it just faded in memory.

Forgot that one - I love that track. I went to The Crown once, just down the lane from Benifolds. The pub is still there and doing well, but it was closed when I was there Must go back one day.

OK, so I'll put my favourites in as well.
Seeing that I'm not very fond of his solo albums, I'll stick to his Fleetwood Mac recordings (seems there's no Boilerhouse material circulating).

The 10 favourites (no particular order):
One Sided Love
One Sunny Day
Although The Sun Is Shining
Without You
Coming Your Way
My Dream
Like Crying
Jigsaw Puzzle Blues
Like It This Way
Sunny Side Of Heaven

Then, true runner-ups:
Something Inside Me (not the Jeremy Spencer/Elmore James version)
Blues With A Feeling
Wet Weather Blues
Dragonfly
Talk With You
World's In A Tangle
Tell Me
Loving Kind
When You Say
Only You

Well there are some more but, whatever.....
