Hey David that's an awesome picture in your signature, you wouldn't happen to have a larger version would you? It'd make a great desktop. Isn't it from the '78 AMA's where Carol Anne Harris described Lindsey getting trashed out of his mind....and the sombrero

I always thought that myself
At first I thought I was crazy thinking that.
Glad to see someone else does too!

Stevie also says "dream on silly dreamer" in the Nightmare piano demo. And she says, "I'd like to leave you with something warm" in both Nightmare and Storms.

Lindsey uses "faces of glass" in Loving Cup too. Faces of glass work well in DOR on several levels, because they have their noses pressed up against the shop windows on Rodeo Drive.

I like the difference between falling down and getting up in Loving Cup and Family Man, because in Loving Cup it's like the couple is falling and getting up together, working out their problems, instead of giving up on each other. In Family Man, he's more solitary, which is ironic, given the song title.

And he also flies down Juniper more than once.

When he was recording Soundstage, Lindsey used the same solo for Murrow that he does at the end of ISA and he commented, "I'm stealing from myself."

I listened to both songs back to back, and I still couldnt notice that.

He also uses "faces of glass" in 'On the Wrong Side'. "Faces of liars and faces of glass/Oh, they walk by the window/But they never got passed." So it's used in a similar way to DOR.

Yeah it's from the AMAs. I think I just grabbed it off the Web, made the sig, & then trashed it. It wasn't very big to begin with, malheureusement.

Seems unlikely that someone would sue someone over a I-IV-V chord progression, especially if that someone designed both tracks in question. Plus, I doubt Stevie has ever even heard I Want You. I myself don't hear the similarity between the two (other than the I-IV-V-IV on the chorus), but hey.

Not yours necessarily, michele, but some of these spot-the-similarities examples stretch. Virtually everyone who sings or plays does similar stuff from song to song. Christine used the same blues lick on Rhiannon onstage & on Save Me in the studio, & on dozens of other examples. That's just her style. It's not even necessarily a conscious thing. She didn't sit there thinking, "Now I'll throw in the Rhiannon blues lick." What you play, when you play it, & how you play it is what constitutes your style. It's different from consciously using an entire stanza in two or more songs, for example, in order to re-create a mood or emphasize an emotional core or some other deliberately aesthetic reason. And, as any study of Beethoven would show, there are a million different ways to slightly vary motives & larger themes, including inversion (or mirroring), augmentation, diminution, modality variation (major to minor or vice versa) & tempo variation. And lyrically, too, you can do dozens of things to reference previous work (some very astute people have called Stevie's entire body of work one big endlessly self-referential song).

Lindsey gives some of the same force & heft to the chorus of Book of Love that he put in Go Your Own Way by using essentially the same chord progression on the chorus of both, just employing augmentation techniques.

Every songwriter & every composer does this sort of thing. Even Thomas Dolby.

Ya. Once on another board someone was speaking about how Lindsey had done a cover of Wild Mountain Thyme, but titled it D.W. Suite. All they have in common is slight similarity in the vocal melodies and the "we'll all go together" line, that's it.

Could just be my imagination, but listen to IDWK without the vocals and I think you may hear some similarities.
