Default "You Do or You Don't"

While listening to "You Do or You Don't" I recognized a part of "Bleed to Love Her" towards the end. Does anyone know the story on why he used that bit of music and lyric twice?

I don't know why; but those words must be very poingnant and he felt they belonged in Bleed.

That was one of the questions I asked him for the Q&A. Hopefully he'll answer it!

Good question. I love it, just like I love the Illume / Destiny Rules repeat

Oh boy, yes. Like someone brought up: Illume/Destiny Rules. Then there's also Enchanted/Destiny and Whole Lotta Trouble/Thousand Days. Am I forgetting one?

And the days go by doing nothing about them appears on If You Ever Did Believe and Forest of the Black Roses.

In Stevie and Tom's So Sad Stevie used those words in her diary. When she had that diary entry back in 1977 and said "Lindsey and I are at an end. So sad to see good love go bad."

The strain of falling down and getting up in Loving Cup and Family Man

This isn't a repeated lyric, but it's my favorite continued lyric from Lindsey:

Don't Let Me Down Again:

There's just one thing I'd like you to know:
I've got no more to lose if you go

Second Hand News:

One thing I think you should know:
I ain't gonna miss you when you go

Going back to the song...You Do or You Don't...

AT the end of the song, he doesn't exactly humm....but sings notes. It took me a long time to figure out what tune that is...

Anyone old enough to remember "There's a Summer Place" ? I swear that's the tune he's singing.

Anyone care to comment?

You are right ! I've googled it and found this (you can listen to a clip of the Percy Faith recording) :

I've been breaking my brains over this for years now as it seemed so familiar. Something from my childhood days, but i just could not figure out what.
Thank you !!

That's what he's humming, all right. "A Summer Place" theme from the movie with Troy Donahue. The music was written by Max Steiner. A popular slice of Americana 1950s Hit Parade, which was a major part of Lindsey's formative musical experience. Aside from the theme itself, the song lyrics probably appeal to him -- innocence lost & regained.

He does that sort of thing a lot, not always on the lyrical level though. Stephanie and Eyes Of the World have the same guitar riff. Part of I Want You's melody came from I Don't Want to Know. If I can think of any more I'll post them.

Also on OOTC , the end lines he sings on "Soul Drifter" always make me think of "The lion sleeps tonight". I 'm not sure exactly what he sings, but to me it sounds like "i am on my way" or "i am down the way" ?

Also, that same riff is done on a synthesiser in "Bang The Drum" (only slowed way down) off of Go Insane.
