City crowd welcomes back Mac
By Sandi Davis

Though it's been decades since Fleetwood Mac came to Oklahoma City, they made up for it with an outstanding concert Tuesday night at the Ford Center.

Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks looked and sounded great with the help of backup musicians as they brought their "Say You Will" tour to Oklahoma City.

Fleetwood started the concert with a driving bass drum beat, convincing the audience to clap along as he and McVie, Buckingham and Nicks went into the band's classic, "The Chain."

The near-capacity crowd rarely sat as the band -- minus Christine McVie -- ran through old songs like "Dreams" and new ones like "Peacekeeper" to nearly deafening applause and shouts.

Nicks was the big crowd pleaser. Dressed in her trademark black frills and lace, she traded shawls and accessories through the evening.

Buckingham has lost nothing over the years. His guitar work is impeccable and as breathtaking as ever.

Though he didn't sing any of his solo work, his vocals on "Peacekeeper," "Come" and "Never Going Back" were outstanding.

Nicks and company nearly brought the house down with what is probably their biggest hit, "Rhiannon," proving the basic quartet still has the musicianship and star power to play as good a show as they brought to the Myriad about 20 years ago.

Her version of "Gypsy" was just as well received and made it obvious this baby boomer crowd still loves her and her Wiccan- esque ways.

Fleetwood's drumming is still right on and even on the screens it was possible to see the twinkle in his eyes as they played other hits like "Big Love," "Landslide" and "Tusk,."

"World Turning" started a long jam and an encore, letting Fleetwood have the spotlight as he brought out a few percussive instruments and encouraged the audience to sing and dance with them.

In short, Fleetwood Mac was a great success in Oklahoma City, and here's hoping they don't wait another 20 years before coming around again.

Smile The Daily Oklahoman review...

is kinda funny to me because I have to say that Lindsey stole this show!!! (I posted a concert review here already at the "Concert Reviews")

Can't wait til tomorrow to go through the whole concert experience again & meet up with Gerald, Livia & the other Ledgies in Big-D.

My cousins... whom I converted into Fleetwood Mac fans years ago (*evil grin*)... live in OKC, and attended last night's show.

They made a couple of aborted attempts to call me during the concert, but we were having connection problems. Eventually they were able to get thru in time for me to hear "Big Love," which absolutely just blew me away.

I had kind of hoped they'd stay on the line long enough for me to hear "Landslide" too, but I sure wasn't gonna be greedy!

At any rate, I can't wait to talk to them tonight, to hear their thoughts on the concert.
Though they like Lindsey, they tend to be bigger Stevie fans, so I'm interested in what they thought.
