“American Way” is a great song, isn’t it? It’s just like some of those up-tempo Tusk songs and would fit right into that album.
John was playing the Model 1 in 1981 — opening for Stevie in December and at Magic Mountain a few months earlier (using it on “You Can’t Go Back to Kansas”). Mr. Buckingham was absolutely Stewart’s impetus for that. I never saw him in person after that, but I assume he continued using it for all the rock numbers in later years.
