This was the only track I hadn't heard. It's nice. I never thought much of the demo, but this is very good.

You can also watch Stevie's commentary on "Watch Chain"

I just love these commentaries. Hopefully, we'll get one for every track and can compile them in a single thread.

I love this commentary! I love this SONG! For decades, I imagined she was singing about Lindsey. Never occurred to me it could be about Mick. The Living Room Demos (where it originated, along with "Storms") is post Rumours, pre Tusk era when her and Mick were "a thing." And if you think about it along the lines of "the keeper of the time"...aka Mick "keeping time" as the drummer for the band, it all makes so much sense now.

Obviously, this is my favorite song of all the demos ever bootlegged. I've been listening to it for at least 13 years and it never gets old. I ALWAYS knew this song was written about Mick. "The Keeper of the Time" just made me think of Mick the first time I heard it. I really like this new rock inspired arrangement. However, I still like the slow R&B groove of the demo better. The demo always reminded me of "Tell Me Something Good" by Rufus (featuring Chaka Khan). The new version doesn't have the groovy bass line that I love, or it's not as pronounced. I STILL LIKE the new version, but I would have preferred that she stay more true to the original arrangement.

You know, thinking of the song as being about Mick kind of ruins it for me because, I don't want to envision his tired face across the pillow.
Also, I think "touching fingers through the kitchen lace" is very suggestive and Mick doing that is yuck. Other suggestive lines that I like on the album are "I want to take you on a slow ride" and "you like my 24 Karat gold." I mean, I know the latter doesn't mean anything on its face, but it strikes me as seductive, somehow. Michele |

What about Mick's "great dark wing within the wings of a storm"? Or "undoing the laces?" Or "Gate and Garden"? Stevie's been doing this for years.

No, I don't think so . I meant Mick engaging in the sophmoric, courting gesture of playing with your fingers. It's kind of sensual, like the softest lips in Love Is.
But doesn't that take you back to a quaint time? Washing dishes with the kitchen window open, talking to the boy you like outside ... It's kind of odd, because I haven't even had a kitchen window in years, much less lace curtains. I had a house with 6 sets of french windows downstairs, full of glass. But no kitchen windows!
