I'm listening now:
If You Were My Love: Payoff is when the song finally hits the minor chord after moving between the 1 and major 2 throughout. Not much happening. Mabel Normand: Not my taste. Reminiscent of her vocal on Wide Sargasso Sea, but without a discernible chorus. Twisted: Simple and beautiful, very Nashville. Full-on harmonies with Stevie and the girls. Major lyric change: "Well, I got your demons!" Song definitely moves. Best version we have officially but not quite the level of the live performances from '98. |

I like that Blue Water snippet a lot. It's got drums and guitars on it...sounds like they really fleshed it out.

Yes. That's the label from the White Album days.

Belle Fleur: Most musically interesting so far. Banjo! Sounds like something Dolly Parton might have recorded in the 80s. LOOOOOOONG musical intro with growling, grinding bass and mirrored in the outro. "Canyon dancing, all night long."
All The Beautiful Worlds: Very "Rock A Little." Really shows Stevie's songwriting prowess. Very sophisticated chord structure and movement. Synth/EP driven, again 80s in a good way. Brilliant vocal in bridge: "Ooooooh you say you're leavin' baby!" First one of the tracks we haven't heard yet that I'd call "classic Stevie." |

I Don't Care: Hard rocker but pretty weak lyrically. Starts acoustic and rather soft, goes back and forth between electric and "unplugged" as she says "I don't mean it, I do care..." Reminds me of "Ghosts Are Gone" in the rockin' parts.

Watch Chain: Bass/electric-driven, another one without a distinct hook/chorus. Nice scooping harmonies on the end. My opinion thus far is other than Starshine, the rockers aren't faring well, kinda bland.
Hard Advice: not as expected. Might have been inspired by the the Petty conversation but very much a love song. Great chorus, nice 12-string work. "Go write some real songs... This is all wrong." |

Ah wish I could... No good way to do it. I'll stop if I'm spoiling though.

Maybe it's just the snippet but the playing and production on Blue Water sounds very "Bare Trees" FM to me.

Carousel is beautiful, mixed perfectly. She and Vanessa blend so much better than on The One. This is the kind of song you could put on repeat.
