[from an article on relationship with Cuba. I don't remember Mick talking about his trip to Cuba]

http://www.gpb.org/news/2014/12/23/w...cuba-relations

But the U.S. and Cuba's government have been building cultural bridges for years. Kornbluh points to a 1999 independent cultural exchange program: "The Cuban government hosted something called Puentes musicales, 'musical bridges,' in which a whole bunch of artists went down," he says. "Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac was there. Bonnie Raitt was there."

2015 A-Z Classic Rock Preview: Part One
by Nick DeRiso

A new year promises plenty of new music, from the studio and out on the road. Here’s part one of our comprehensive, alphabetical 2015 forecast for your favorite classic rock artists — detailing what they’ve been up to, and what’s next. In this edition, we survey AC/DC through Fleetwood Mac.

AC/DC

AC/DC have already confirmed 22 dates in 2015 in support of their new album 'Rock or Bust,' with shows beginning in May. The record, AC/DC's first since 2008's 'Black Ice,' arrived amid news of Malcolm Young's retirement. Still unclear, however, is drummer Phil Rudd's role in these upcoming shows. He said he plans to return to the group, despite some serious legal issues. Also up in the air: whether AC/DC will perform at Glastonbury. Their tour schedule leaves room for an appearance.

Aerosmith

Between touring behind 2012's 'Music From Another Dimension!' and various outside projects -- from Joe Perry's autobiography and Christmas EP to Steven Tyler's multi-year stint on 'American Idol' -- it's been a busy period for Aerosmith. This year promises some down time, as Perry confirmed in an exclusive talk with Ultimate Classic Rock. There are loose plans for some summer dates, he said, but so far only one July concert has been confirmed. Perry could possibly squeeze in some solo shows late in 2015, too. Meanwhile, Joey Kramer had a health scare in 2014, forcing the cancellation of some summer shows, but he's since returned to full strength.

Gregg Allman

The Allman Brothers Band said goodbye with an epic Beacon show in October, drawing four decades of music to a close following the departures of guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. Still, leader Gregg Allman remains a stalwart figure on the concert trail, and has more than a dozen confirmed dates for 2015, with 10 of them in January alone. Meanwhile, Haynes just celebrated 20 years with his band Gov't Mule, releasing a Pink Floyd tribute album, and Trucks is promising more music from his Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Jeff Beck

Jeff Beck has already given fans a taste of new, never-before-released material as part of November's 'Live in Tokyo' set, and his first studio album since 2010's 'Emotion and Commotion' is set to follow in 2015. Beck will also return to the road with ZZ Top, after their 2014 tour was put on hold after Dusty Hill was injured on his tour bus. Beck already has nearly 20 shows lined up for 2015, beginning in April.

Black Sabbath

A rejuvenated Black Sabbath, fresh off their 2013 smash hit '13,' plan another studio album and tour -- with both slated to be their last. Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler have spoken openly about their hopes to finish on a high note alongside Tony Iommi, who's rebounded from a cancer scare. Osbourne hinted that producer Rick Rubin would be on board again, as well. Not much is known beyond that, though Osbourne -- who will also tour without Sabbath alongside Judas Priest and Motorhead -- says sessions will begin "sooner rather than later."

Bon Jovi

We know one thing Jon Bon Jovi won't be doing in 2015: owning an NFL team, after his controversial bid to purchase the Buffalo Bills fell short. Meanwhile, if he hits the road again with Bon Jovi, it will almost certainly be without the departed Richie Sambora. A disagreement that led to the longtime guitarist's sudden departure in 2013 apparently remained unresolved late into 2014 -- with both camps saying it's time to move on. Sambora played a series of summer dates in Europe while Jon appeared in Vegas with the Kings of Suburbia. Keyboardist David Bryan also saw his stage production 'Memphis: The Musical' debut in London in 2014.

Boston

Boston didn't slow down after releasing 'Life, Love and Hope' late in 2013, playing an astounding 68 shows through summer 2014, and even teaming up with the Doobie Brothers on a series of well-received dates. Boston hadn't released a new album since 2002. Leader Tom Scholz spent the interim rebuilding Boston after the death of singer Brad Delp, whose final Boston sessions appeared on 'Life, Love and Hope.' A live, perhaps career-spanning, concert film could be next. "I still have countless recordings of Boston playing every possible song with numerous different arrangements live," Scholz told us. "It’s a very tantalizing thing to do."

David Bowie

David Bowie included a pair of new songs on a 2014 retrospective release, solidifying a stirring comeback that began with the unexpected release of 'The Next Day' in 2013, and hinting at a larger project to come in 2015 ... maybe. Not so fast, Bowie's camp cautioned, as 'Sue (Or in a Season Of Crime)' and ''Tis a Pity She Was a Whore' were part of the ‘Nothing Has Changed’ set. A new tour is just as uncertain as more new music -- though, as longtime producer Tony Visconti notes, you never know with the Thin White Duke. "I don't know and I couldn't predict that, it's up to him," Visconti says of Bowie, who hasn't appeared onstage in a decade. "It's whatever takes his fancy."

Cheap Trick

Fresh off a December appearance at the Vallarta-Nayarit Classic Rock Festival, the always-busy Cheap Trick have already announced 15 dates for 2015. "We play as much as we can," Rick Nielsen said in 2014. "No record? We go on tour. New record? On tour. Hit record? Flop record? Always tour." While there's been no mention of a new album from Cheap Trick, Nielsen appeared as a guest on the Foo Fighters' star-studded 'Sonic Highways,' and then joined them for a performance on 'The Late Show With David Letterman.'

Chickenfoot

The wait for a follow-up to Chickenfoot's 2011 album continues. That's the nature of having Sammy Hagar (who has a busy schedule of solo projects) and Chad Smith (also a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) in one lineup. They've often been ready to get back to work, but guitarist Joe Satriani has been elsewhere. And so it goes, save for several concert pairings of Hagar and Michael Anthony -- and a notable appearance of the full band at Hagar's birthday concert in October. For his part, however, Satriani isn't ready to give up on Chickenfoot just yet. "We're trying to get our priorities straight, and we probably never will," he says. "But I do think there's a couple more records in there somehow."

Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton announced plans in 2014 to quit the road, even though he still intends to record. Up next? Perhaps a second tribute project to friend JJ Cale, some all-new material or, he says, perhaps both. Unfortunately, any hopes for a rerun of 2005's Cream reunion evaporated with the death of bandmate Jack Bruce last year. Clapton led a musical farewell in his honor; he also released a song called 'For Jack,' Clapton's first new music since 2013's 'Old Sock.' As for performing, Clapton says he might do one-off shows, but he doesn't plan on any more major tours.

Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper continued building on his own towering legend with a series of 2014 dates opening for Motley Crue ... and he occasionally one-upped the main attraction. He'll stay on the road into the new year, having already announced a dozen dates in the U.S. and Europe for the Raise the Dead tour. Cooper hasn't released a new studio album since 2011's 'Welcome 2 My Nightmare,' though he contributed an update of the Beatles' 'Eleanor Rigby' to the recent tribute album to Paul McCartney and released a terrific concert DVD. And his long-awaited 'Hollywood Vampires' covers record could finally see the light of day in 2015.

Crosby, Stills and Nash

As with Alice Cooper, CSN's covers project might finally come to fruition in 2015. But get used to seeing Crosby, Stills and Nash without Neil Young. A sprawling 'CSNY 1974' set, released in 2014, served as a stirring reminder of their success as a quartet. But then Young and David Crosby had another falling out, this time over comments Crosby made about Young's love life -- and that appears to have severed their musical partnership for good. That said, CSN have been touring without Young consistently since 2006, including a string of well-received dates this past fall. They've already confirmed seven concerts in Japan, beginning in March.

Deep Purple

Deep Purple spent the year consolidating momentum after storming back to relevance with 2013's 'Now What?!' That meant scores of live shows -- including a rare set of U.S. stops -- and the release of a live DVD. Next are more than 20 European concerts set for 2015. They've also begun work on a follow-up to 'Now What?!,' and plan to once again work with producer Bob Ezrin. "He really enjoyed making the record with us, so it’s a no-brainer really that we’re going to do it again," Roger Glover tells us. "I think that will probably be out sometime next year." Deep Purple also took part in an emotional farewell concert for late member Jon Lord. The show was released as a deluxe set in September.

Def Leppard

Def Leppard wrapped up 2014 with the elements of a new album in place, despite a difficult period of health problems for guitarist Vivian Campbell. Singer Joe Elliott was expected to put the finishing touches on the project early in the new year, with a release date for Def Leppard's first album since 2008's 'Songs From the Sparkle Lounge' to be determined. Meanwhile, Def Leppard toured with Kiss and performed in the opening ceremonies of an NFL game in London, with Trixter's Steve Brown filling in for Campbell. They'll begin a string of Canadian dates in April, then hit Europe beginning in May.

Doobie Brothers

The Doobie Brothers will once again team up with some big-name guests in 2015, beginning with String Cheese Incident at the 2015 Lockn Festival. The appearance, called the Doobie Incident, arrives on the heels of 'Southbound,' a multi-artist collaboration featuring some of country's top stars. The album included Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald and Patrick Simmons' first appearance on a Doobie Brothers album since 1978's 'Minute by Minute.' New tour dates begin in February, and include bills with Alice Cooper and War.

Bob Dylan

A career full of surprising twists will take another surprising turn in 2015 as Bob Dylan issues an album of standards associated with Frank Sinatra. Set for release in February, 'Shadows in the Night' features a cover of 'Full Moon and Empty Arms,' which Dylan began streaming on his website in October. He's coming off another busy year of touring, which unfolded even as 'The Basement Tapes Complete' -- a comprehensive look back at his fabled 1967 recordings with the Band -- arrived in stores. Dylan completed his 2014 run with five-night stand in early December at the Beacon Theatre in New York City; no other dates have been confirmed yet.

Eagles

The Eagles stayed busy on the road in 2014 (well, when they weren't filing lawsuits about this or that). Nothing surprising there. But Joe Walsh revealed that the Eagles might be inching closer to their first studio release since 2007's 'Long Road Out of Eden.' "We've got some stuff in the can," he said, before reeling off his own plans for a blues-focused solo effort. The group's 'History of the Eagles' tour heads to Australia in February, followed by questions about how many more of these globe-crossing jaunts they have left in them.

Electric Light Orchestra

Jeff Lynne reignited Electric Light Orchestra for a September performance at London's Hyde Park. Despite some pre-show jitters, he now says there are bigger things on the way. There could be both new music and a full-fledged tour in 2015. “I’m working on a new album, and that’ll be involved in the new times when we play,” said Lynne, who returned to the stage with ELO keyboardist Richard Tandy.

Fleetwood Mac

For fans of Fleetwood Mac's classic-era lineup, 2014's return of Christine McVie was a dream come true -- and 2015 promises still more. Putting aside a lengthy retirement, McVie began working on new music with Lindsey Buckingham before returning to concert halls with the group. This as-yet-unnamed new project, slated for completion in 2015, will be the first to feature the complete 'Rumours' lineup since 1987's 'Tango in the Night.' Stevie Nicks also released the solo '24 Karat Gold', new recordings of some of her old unrecorded songs. Fleetwood Mac have at least 30 more shows lined up for 2015.

2014 Tour of the Year – 4th Annual Ultimate Classic Rock Awards
by Dave Lifton January 7, 2015 5:01 PM

The 4th Annual Ultimate Classic Rock Awards for 2014’s Tour of the Year features many of the biggest acts ever to grace a concert stage, like Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and the Allman Brothers Band. Some of them, like Kiss with Def Leppard or ZZ Top with Jeff Beck, offered concertgoers double the firepower for the evening. You can vote below for Tour of the Year.

Aerosmith / Slash

The Let Rock Rule tour paired Aerosmith with Slash, which recalled the time Guns N’ Roses opened for Aerosmith in 1988. In the days leading up to the announcement, Joe Perry teased the tour by spray-painting several walls in Los Angeles. Together, they played 21 dates in sheds across North America over the summer.

Allman Brothers Band

Rock’s definitive road warriors, the Allman Brothers Band, decided to call it quits shortly after guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks announced that they would leave at the end of 2014. But they went out in style, with a string of dates at their second home, New York’s Beacon Theatre, concluding with a three-set show that was broadcast over satellite radio. Their final tour also took them to Mountain Jam, where they performed their first two albums — ‘The Allman Brothers Band’ and ‘Idlewild South’ — in their entirety.

Fleetwood Mac

One of the most welcome sights of a classic rock tour in 2014 was the return of Christine McVie to Fleetwood Mac for the first time since 1998. The reunion, which was sparked by her sitting in with the band in London in 2013, resulted in 34 shows at the end of 2014. It has been so well-received that they have extended the tour through spring.

John Fogerty

Perhaps it was a way of making up for all those years that he refused to play Creedence Clearwater Revival songs, but in 2014, John Fogerty embraced his past like never before. He spent much of the second half of the year celebrating the 45th anniversary of the band's most productive year. He toured the U.S. and Canada, focusing on material from the three albums Creedence released in 1969, ‘Bayou Country,’ ‘Green River’ and ‘Willy and the Poor Boys.’ He has announced plans to bring the same show to the rest of the world in 2015.

Foreigner / Styx / Don Felder

The Soundtrack of Summer tour, which packaged Foreigner, Styx and former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, crisscrossed the U.S. from mid-May through late-July. Felder opened each show, with the other two switching spots on a nightly basis. The tour gained national headlines in Philadelphia when two of the tour buses caught fire while in a parking lot. They thanked the Philadelphia Fire Department by donating $10,000 to the department’s Widows Fund.

Sammy Hagar

Never one to sit around for too long, Sammy Hagar grabbed old buddy Michael Anthony, Waboritas guitarist Vic Johnson and drummer Jason Bonham and took fans on 'A Journey through the History of Rock.’ The show touched on Hagar’s entire career — Montrose, solo, Van Halen and Chickenfoot — and, thanks to Bonham’s involvement, a handful of Led Zeppelin tunes.

Judas Priest / Steel Panther

Judas Priest’s first album in six years, ‘Redeemer of Souls,’ saw them replace longtime guitarist K.K. Downing with Richie Faulkner without missing a beat. Along with NSFW metal band Steel Panther, they spent October and November bringing what Rob Halford called an “incredible metal night” to more than 30 cities across America, including a stop in Brooklyn that we caught. Priest already have dates booked worldwide through Aug. 1, 2015.

Kiss / Def Leppard

Once again, Kiss’ summer tour saw them bring another heavyweight band on the road with them. With Def Leppard opening, the nine-week, 40-date jaunt across North American found Kiss, as they’ve done in the past, donate one dollar from every ticket sold to assorted charities that benefit military families. We saw them in August at a show that also included the Dead Daisies, a band comprised of veterans of such bands as Guns N’ Roses, INXS and Whitesnake.

Paul McCartney

After a handful of spring shows in South America, Paul McCartney’s 2014 hit a snag. A virus landed him in the hospital, forcing him to cancel an entire week of dates in Asia and postpone the start of his U.S. tour. But he rebounded by repeatedly delivering marathon concerts with his customary enthusiasm. The tour reached a poignant note in August when he played the final event at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park, the same spot as the Beatles’ last-ever concert on Aug. 29, 1966.

Motley Crue / Alice Cooper

Motley Crue began 2014 by announcing their ‘Final Tour,’ complete with tombstones, a jazz funeral procession and even signing a legally binding ‘Cessation of Touring Agreement’ at the press conference. As befits the macabre tone, they invited Alice Cooper along as their opening act. Tommy Lee unveiled a new drum roller coaster, the Cruecifly, that was so big, it couldn’t even be performed at some venues. We’re not sure exactly when it will end -- we’ve heard New Year’s Eve, but then Vince Neil said he hopes that their last-ever show will be Jan. 17, 2016, which will be their 35th anniversary.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers / Steve Winwood

‘Hypnotic Eye,’ Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ first album since 2010’s ‘Mojo,’ was supported by a nine-week tour from early August to early October in cities across North America, including a late-August stop at Boston’s Fenway Park. Opening up for Petty on all dates was Steve Winwood.

Queen Adam Lambert

After years of one-off dates and shows in Europe, Queen + Adam Lambert finally brought their live experience to North America. This past summer, they played 19 shows in 18 cities in the U.S. and Canada over the course of a month. They ended 2014 by playing a high-profile New Year’s Eve show at London’s Westminster Central Hall that was broadcast on the BBC.

Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones weren’t kidding when they called their 2012 return to the road 50 and Counting. Their 14 on Fire tour took them to three continents. Unfortunately, the Australia and New Zealand leg was twice derailed, first with the death of L’Wren Scott, Mick Jagger’s girlfriend, and one of the rescheduled dates was canceled when Jagger picked up a throat infection.

Bruce Springsteen

After spending the first part of the year in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Bruce Springsteen brought his tour in support of ‘High Hopes’ to the U.S. It was a brief run for Springsteen, with only 15 shows in five weeks during the spring. But the concerts, one of which we saw in Nashville, still blended newer songs and old favorites with his trademark intensity. He also threw in plenty of covers by acts as diverse as the Clash, AC/DC, the Bee Gees and Lorde.

ZZ Top / Jeff Beck

Another tantalizing tour for classic rock fans paired ZZ Top and Jeff Beck. Their shows became noteworthy when the two acts combined forces in the encore for some guitar-based fireworks. Unfortunately, an injury to Dusty Hill forced ZZ Top to bow out of the last 13 shows, but they rescheduled several of those dates for 2015.

These are the nominees for 2014 Tour of the Year. Voting ends Feb. 3, 2015, at 9AM ET. You can vote once per hour, so be sure to come back and make sure your favorite wins.

[From an article on Jill Focke, fashion designer]

Click to Houston, January 25, 2015 by Dominique Sachse,

http://www.click2houston.com/news/ho...ities/30889264

Houston fashion designer Jill Focke is living every girl's rock and roll dream. Currently on tour with Fleetwood Mac, Focke's fashion career started with a call from Bette Midler's costume designer inviting her to join Midler's tour in 1993. From there, her career took off.

"I'm a traveling wardrobe supervisor for different rock and roll bands. I've worked for Bette Midler, Fleetwood Mac, the Backstreet Boys, Miley Cyrus, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Lenny Kravitz," said Focke.

Focke's job is to prevent wardrobe malfunctions from happening while the performers are on stage.

"There was a time where I was working for the Backstreet Boys and the designer had picked out this beautiful Armani shirt for one of the guys, but it was a very light-weight gauze fabric," Focke said. "So six shows a week, sweating profusely, the thing was just in shreds. I just went and bought some fabric, made him a couple extra shirts.

"He goes, 'You made this?' I'm like, 'Yeah, that's kind of what I do,' and he goes, 'Can you make me some for my own life?'" So that was a nice compliment."

Freede knows all about those "compliments" from celebrities can actually translate into sales. One of her other fans is Rihanna. Freede even has a chain necklace with crystals that is now affectionately dubbed, "The Rihanna Necklace."

"They can have a piece that Rihanna has for under $50," said Freede of her mainstream customers who too enjoy the same designs as celebrities.

Freede's work has appeared in the pages of Vogue, O Magazine, Glamour and In-Style, but she has not forgotten the mainstream customer either. Her items can be found on her website LisaFreede.com and at NeimanMarcus.com, and also in store at Tootsies.

"It makes me feel just as excited when Sue Smith or my mother call me up and say, 'Lisa, that's one of my most special pieces,'" said Freede.

When asked why she prefers to live in Houston over Los Angeles or New York, Freede said there's something familiar about Houston.

"I compare it to my life in Detroit where I was relaxed and I could be creative and be me," Freede said. "I didn't have to get dressed up and I don't when I'm here. And as a designer, my ideas are in my head. So, I chose to be here."

Freede plans to expand her brand over the next few years to include hair accessories, hand bags and belts. She is also very excited about two new upcoming projects, including one with Martha Stewart to create a line made in America.

The other upcoming project will allow her to join forces once again with R&B star Tionne, of TLC. The two met years ago when Freede worked as stylist for the group and have remained friends over the years.

With the recent announcement of TLC's tour with New Kids on The Block and Nelly, there was no question about who would style Tionne's jewelry for the tour. Of course, her old friend, Freede.

For more information on Focke's designs, visit her Facebook page at J. Ellen Designs.

From an article on Acass Systems

http://www.omaha.com/money/omaha-bas...f9340bb20.html

By Cole Epley / World-Herald staff writer January 26, 2015

Omaha-based Acass Systems is revolutionizing staging for live music

Co-founder Cass designs staging components to custom specifications for artists. For example, Acass Systems was responsible for the riser on which Mick Fleetwood’s drum kit was set up for Fleetwood Mac’s tour that stopped in Lincoln on Jan. 17. The firm also designed the support structure on which the stage-width LED display was mounted.

Who Should Perform at the Super Bowl Instead of Katy Perry?
by Nick DeRiso

We can now definitively say that The period between 2001-10 was the golden era of Super Bowl halftime shows. After all, a whopping seven out of 10 performers were drawn from the classic-rock era, starting with Aerosmith and continuing through U2, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and the Who.
Since then? Not so much. Katy Perry, who’ll perform this week during Super Bowl XLIX at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., continues a more recent trend toward pop music that’s included artists like the Black Eyed Peas, Bruno Mars and Beyonce.
Who would you rather instead?
Legacy groups that have recently put out new material like AC/DC, Kiss or Van Halen? Or what about someone with local flavor like Alice Cooper — who went to high school, and started his music career, in the area? What about Judas Priest, whose frontman Rob Halford has been a resident of Paradise Valley, Ariz., for three decades? Yes and Poison also have members with ties to Arizona.
Or would you go bigger, with long-hoped-for reunions of the remaining members of Led Zeppelin or the original lineup of Guns N’ Roses? Maybe Fleetwood Mac, whose Stevie Nicks used to live in Arizona? Something more patriotic, like heartland rockers Bob Seger or Bon Jovi? Or sentimental, like Rush or Motley Crue — both of whom are apparently winding down their touring days?
The choice is yours. We picked some of our favorite classic-rock artists who’ve yet to play the big game. Vote now for which one you’d rather see on Sunday Bowl Sunday.

Howard Stern played The Chain on his radio show yesterday. He then spent some time talking about how I think Gary and somebody else went and that it was amazing and how he saw them a few years ago at some private gig. Robin asked him if he met any of them and he said it wasn't the type of thing where you could just go up to them. Howard said there was a Stevie song that really gets him emotionally but he couldn't remember what it was said it was a solo song. Robin read him a lot of solo song names and he was like nah that's not it and then mentioned it was a b side. I am sure it was Silver Springs and he got confused -ha!
I would love for Howard to interview Stevie. He is such a great interviewer and has a way of getting information out of his guests without being obnoxious and he has toned it way down as well.

I'm part of the leather community here in Los Angeles. We have a bunch of contests during the year that are like, well, if you can imagine a gay leather version of Mrs. America. Occasionally I am an emcee for some of the contests. Yes, I am the LA kinky gay Burt Parks. Anyway, last Saturday night I was co-emcee for a contest in a bar out in Long Beach called Pistons, it was the Mr. Pistons Leather contest. A good friend of mine was in the audience who is also a huge Stevie fan (and how lucky am I that I have another Stevie Fanatic to geek out with) so I told him that at some point during the night I was going to throw a Stevie lyric into the show somewhere. So during the first section I looked at my co-emcee and I said, "you know, all five of these guys are too good. I'm glad not a judge because I just can't pick a winner. Why can't we give them all medals, I mean, why does someone always have to win?"

And out in the crowd one person laughed and I knew my friend got the joke.

Next month I'm doing an even bigger contest, and my friend will be there. So now I need to figure out a way to sneak in a really good line just to see if he's paying attention.
