I agree Nico it's because of John Lennon and with a a little help from his fans.
I am going cut and paste what I posted on another web sites board for the 30th anniversary of John 's assassination.

I'm allmost 53 years old.I was a adult living on my own allready when John was assassinated. So the memory is still clear with me.The memory of how he died and being only 40 years old. Is still painful and still sometimes brings tears to my eyes.Tomorrow I will be listening to music and later that evening lighting a candle for him in my home.As I have done for many years. My Dad who was born on Johns birthday of October 9th.Except my Dad would have turned 88 years old this past birthday. He passed away from cancer when I was in my 20's.So even John's birthday has special personal meaning for me every year.I am sending out prayers love, respect and caring on December 8th for John. Also prayers, positive energy and love for Yoko and Sean and Julian and Cynthia and Johns relatives living in England. And for all those of us that loved and cared about him.Thank you John for everything you gave us all.Your allways be with us in our hearts and through your music.Lets not just be sad about how he died and how young he was.We need to celebrate John's Life.We Love You John.

Default Two Interviews with Sean Lennon 12/3 and 12/4/2010

I have couple new Sean Lennon articles for anyone interested.

Sean Lennon is no stranger to style circles, so it wasn’t surprising to see him recently at a fashion-magazine launch in Paris, where he was about to perform onstage with a host of other musicians, including his model girlfriend, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, and his close buddy, Montreal supermodel Irina Lazareanu.

of this interview has been going around for a long time in the trade circles, a very good interview considering the circumstances:

Default Performance of the song' Listen' written and sung by Sean Lennon

Thank You estranged4life for the sharing the links with us.Someone on another message board posted this version of this song by Sean Lennon.Which is different than the other video on ' You Tube'. It shows Sean actually playing the guitar and singing this song he wrote for his Dad himself.

I read that. So poignant. John was very direct like that, and unfortunately he did become somewhat of a hero...but imo he was a hero to so many when he was alive as well, so this was just a natural transition that was bound to happen when a man is that famous and resonates that deeply with people the world over.

I love John's candor. But one thing we should all keep in mind is that, from one day to the next, he was like a different John. He had such different feelings about things and possibly he was feeling strongly about dead hero-worship on that day, three days prior to his own untimely death. Eerie.

On December 8th I went to New York City and sang at Strawberry Fields with the crowd. A huge crowd. I was there in the evening, but it began so early in the day. It was freezing but many didn't budge. There was so much John music being sung and lot's of John discussion...

for example a lady sharing the bench I was standing on with me told me John had, prior to being shot, donated money to the New York police department to buy bullet proof vests for all the officers.

I highly recommend the "LennonNYC" documentary. It's incredibly done and so touching. This other guy on the bench next to me was expressing his adoration for John and wanted to state, for the record that "New York always loved John. We loved him. This was not a New York crime. The man was from Hawaii."

I think it's great to just remember John and listen to his great music and acknowledge that he was absolutely "one of a kind," as Sean put it.

John Lennon Super Live held at Budokan,Tokyo,Japan
December 9, 2010
The late John Lennon’s wife, Yoko Ono, 77, held a memorial concert dedicated to his memory at the Budokan in Tokyo on Wednesday night, exactly 30 years since the day he died. Twenty-five of Japan’s top music artists joined in the annual “Dream Power John Lennon Super Live” show, a charity event founded by Ono to raise money to provide education to deprived children all over the world. This year marks the 10th year of the concert and the 70th anniversary of Lennon’s birth. Ono herself appeared onstage to perform “Rising,” a song she dedicated to her late husband and one that powerfully expressed the strength of the bond that still ties them together. The show started with a projection of a collection of photographs that were recovered after having been stolen and have therefore never been published. Following that, Tamio Okuda, Kazuya Yoshii and Kazuyoshi Saito performed rousing renditions of “Starting Over” and “Woman.” Next up was Yoshikuni Dochin of pop duo Chemistry who performed “Mother” and told the 12,000 strong crowd: “Taking part in this event marks a huge turning point in my life.”Actress Kyoka Suzuki also appeared on stage to perform “Imagine” and “Love.”

We are. Which is why I always felt John was the artist I could relate most to, because he never tried to hide his normal human tendencies.
