Of the 39 shows reported so far on the Unleashed Tour - the averages are about on par with the 2003 leg of the Say You Will Tour.

Unleashed Tour - 39 Shows Reported:

Average Gross Per Show: $1,089,944
Average Attendance: 11,300
Average Capacity: 13,737

Say You Will Tour 2003 - 66 Shows Reported:

Average Gross Per Show: $1,034,927
Average Attendance: 11,912
Average Capacity: 12,546

When you combine the 14 shows I've been able to find for the 2004 leg of the Say You Will Tour with 2003's numbers - the averages change:

Say You Will Tour 2003/04 - 80 Shows Reported:

Average Gross Per Show: $965,671
Average Attendance: 11,810
Average Capacity: 13,169

I forget whether I said it in a PM or on the board, but the SLC show really should have been at the smaller E Center in West Valley instead. But, of course, they were greedy and put it in the bigger venue. The inevitable result could have been seen from 100 miles away.

As for Milwaukee, its just a ****ty concert market in general, and is basically a glorified suburb of Chicago at this point. Milwaukee '03 was only a sellout because they played the amphitheater at Summerfest and at considerably cheaper ticket prices (top ticket was around $70). I'm sure a fair amount of MKE's FM fanbase drove down to Rosemont to see one of the two shows there a few months back (especially since one of them was on a Friday)

LOL

At least Milwaukee had the decency to report the actual capacity that was originally made available on the manifest.

Those numbers will probably show up over the next few weeks... Every show so far up to Milwaukee (excluding Saskatoon and Winnipeg) have been reported. The only other dates not reported were both of the Toronto shows and Ottawa which is a curious thing to me.

That's the reason, for sure. Same with Vancouver's massive success.

Also - I believe the $123 is $50 or so less than other markets.

Default Thank You

Thanks, to those who have worked so hard, did their homework, and informed any of us interested in how this tour has shaped up. I know it isn't easy, especially, to keep track of it all- I don't know if Luke, MacMan, Strand, Michelle and shackinup-- i believe that's all of the major contributors of this thread- were around here on The Ledge in '03, but I recall that I'd do my best with all the stats forwarded to me from a non-Ledgie, and posted the 'Say You Will' tour attendance numbers, i believe for only the first leg- maybe the second, i don't recall.
What I do remember is invariably, someone would (mildly, usually) slam me when they didn't like what they read regarding the attendance ("There were way, way more people there, not an empty seat in the place, how can you say there were 2,000 seats unsold??")-- So, for those who have taken issue with Luke, and no, i don't know him at all-- I just want to say thanks to him. The amount of knowledge that he has shared; things I, anyway, really didn't know about at all, promoter/venue backstory, inside concert industy dealings that don't get explained to the general public often, manipulating attendance capacities..well, i find it very interesting, so, again, thanks.
If at some points in this thread it seemed like there was a 'shoot the messenger' mentality, I think overall, we learned some things we didn't know from the back and forth.
One question- these discounted seats that turn up-- how does one generally find out about these cheap seats- is there any advance notice? The only experience I have with discounted concert seating was for Stevie's "Enchanted" tour; the day of the show, a local Hartford station, WCCC, which is 106 FM on the dial, during the morning, kept plugging, at least 5 times an hour, that until 2 pm, all lawn seats would be available at the box-office for $1.06 each- the day of the concert. So, during my lunch break, i went to The Meadows box and bought a dozen lawn seats and gave them to people at the office, but it was just dumb luck that I'd heard about it at all. I wonder if some of the markets that did have some noticeably horrible 'Unleashed' attendance (there were about 5, no?) would have done better if people knew they could go and take a couple friends and still be able to make their mortgage payments!
I believe that one lesson to be learned from this thread is that 'capacity' doesn't really mean a lot because it's manipulated information.* So, were the gross sales of the US 'Unleashed' tour (somewhere around $40 million to maybe $43 million, for the 45 concerts, is that right??) enough to pay the band's guarantees, pay for the venue, The Teamsters, security, and whatever else? And if the 87% "capacity" didn't reflect discounted tickets and tweaked venue capacity, what would the actual, true, percentage of this tour's attendance been, perhaps 70%?
Fleetwood Mac made out well. Stevie, alone, it has been stated with authority, was to have have earned $200,000 per concert, so that's $9 million for the 45 shows. I don't believe I have seen the stats for Lindsey, Mick and John.
Any guesses, now that the US leg is over, based on all the data in this thread, from Billboard Boxscore, and/or PollStar, as to how the promoter(s) and venues did, financially? I wonder if there was a big television advertising campaign in general, or only in markets that needed extra help? I'm assuming that tv advertising would have to be paid for by the promoter and venue(s) and could mean perhaps another million dollars or more that they had to cover.

*- The Mohegan Sun, here in CT, is a 10,000 seat arena. So far, we have info about only the first 'Unleashed' show there, which sold more than 8,000 seats and was reported as being less than 100 seats away from a 'sell out'-- It's funny how The Sun's Arena capacity changes- when Liza Minnelli played there last year, the capacity somehow became 5,000 seats (she sold 4,000). I mention this because it's been noted how the Auburn Hills, MI, arena, had an actual capacity of 19,000.

Ha! "One question" was what I wrote. Then, I asked about 6 more before I was done. For those who may know any answers; of course you're free to answer none, one, or all of them. And thank you again for this thread, I read all 7 pages in one sitting tonight
