There is not going to be that "big hit single." Artists in their 60's and 70's don't have big hit singles any longer. Radio no longer gives much airplay to new songs by older artists.

When I say that I don't expect Adele sales figures or big radio airplay, I'm talking about a forthcoming song from the album, a 'single' which, radio play or not, is going to be manna from heaven for hundreds of thousands if not millions of people.

Even a new true FM album wouldn't generate a hit single. Spotify, pandora, google play, etc aren't going to stream it unless it is selected. And artists in their 70's appeal to a core audience that will select to stream it, and that will be about it. I wish it were not the case. But that's reality.

If we are are lucky, a single will get some minor airplay on adult contemporary top 40 radio in the top 30 charting range. It's doubtful, but that's the best we can hope for.

not sure this is really important anymore with all the various listening options.
My biggest concern is not that it sells millions, it's THAT I LIKE IT!
...and I've never been so certain in my life that I'm going to, as these artists have a serious rep and track record.

I'm not at all concerned with sales either. For me, it's about the music.

It is TOTALLY about the music and NOT the sales. I was just replying to the post stating

They totally need to do what Adele did... release that Big Hit Single first, at least a month in advance, have momentum build, then give 'em the works in the full album....

I think you misinterpret my meaning. It was capitalized on purpose but was not referring to sales, more that it's 'Big' because it leads off and gives a taste of what's to come. Sure I hope it sells well for them but they're multi millionaires so I really don't care about that...it's the art of the music and what it means to me personally, so in that, it's very Big indeed.

I think you are backtracking, but it's cool. To reach hundreds of thousands, if not millions, would need radio and streaming.

I just want to sit front row center and have them play to hundreds and I will file it in my memory banks.

I went to see Steve Winwood in a small place in San Diego and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I can replay it in my head like it was yesterday.

I've seen both Christine and Lindsey in small places and both events were like a dream.

Well we do know that it will get that on you tube alone, as soon as a track is released there will surely be big promo from WB and as they have fans there will be substance to its notice I'm sure.

I do have a feeling a lot of people are going to like this.

For many who really love their music, the less crowd distraction the better
I too like being close and absorbing it all.
