I know!!!! This irritates me as much as when people say they don't like certain foods when they haven't even tried them first!

Unless they're vegetarian, naturally.

(Yes I know this isn't a lawyers' complaints board)

So my boss took the day off today (or something; he didn't come to court or the office). The other attorney he hired a week or so after me is planning to take the NJ bar exam this week. Obviously this isn't a last minute decision (you have to apply to take the bar in any state months before the actual test), but because it means he'll need two whole days off to go to NJ and take the test (which lasts all two whole days), my boss has apparently decided this is good cause to fire him, because, quote, he's useless and what does he need him for, unquote. He's already unhappy because the guy leaves early to get home for shabbat (yarmulke in plain sight) and his wife just had a boy so he needs to help with the baby (surely something he mentioned during his interview last month?). Now, I'm not crazy about the guy, but did I mention before that my boss is psychotic? And that one of the office guys walked out a few days ago and then had to beg for his job back? And that my boss frequently mentions firing various people in the office for minor screwups? And that he was technically taking the day off today?!?

Depending on the day, he'll either rip me to shreds over things I couldn't possibly have known how to do, or tell me I'm terrific, second in command, destined for greatness, etc. And now the paralegal, who's basically helped me through this whole job since my boss doesn't train anyone, said she might be giving notice on Monday! I don't think my boss has a clue how much people hate him or what a bad position he's putting himself in...

I don't mind your complaining. It just makes me thank God over and over to be so blessed to be my own boss. I had 2 mean bosses in my lifetime that I will never forget.

I don't feel like starting a new thread and I don't know if anyone can help me out - but I just got a tour book in the mail. The staples are a bit rusty and I want to replace them somehow. Good or bad idea?

Of course. But of course a vegetarian shouldn't be opposed to things like grits and turnip greens, too, without trying them.

I don't know if I'll ever be my own boss... at least not for a long time. I don't know how to do much, I don't have my own clients, I don't have money to advertise, etc etc etc.

I hear you on the mean bosses!

In my past careers I worked as a receptionist for 3 different lawyers. One of 'em was a real "winner" if you know what I mean? He was good to me but his clients; well that's another story. I enjoyed those law office jobs immensely.
