Speaking of Tammy she and Stevie were in Betty Ford together during this time .I wonder if they ever spoke.I thought Tammy looked gorgeous in the 1970s with her big bleached blonde hair and false eye lashes.Another thing that she and Stevie share is an ineffable quality in their voices that very few have .Neither one may have been the greatest of all singers but at their best they could break your heart.

Interesting analysis, DauphineMarie. Considering Rock a Little was recorded shortly after Stevie's good friend Robin died, it appears she was trying to make an upbeat album, perhaps to counter the sadness she must have been feeling. I noticed a lot of RAL seemed to showcase Stevie as a fairy godmother type, with Stevie offering all kinds of reassurances, wisdom, and advice. Talk to Me, If I Were You, I Sing For the Things, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You, Sister Honey, and Imperial Hotel certainly fit those categories.

I think the album does sound a bit dated, and you can certainly tell Stevie isn't at her best health-wise, but I still like it, certainly more so than STREET ANGEL.
The cover, however, is hands down her worst!!!! |
