I think maybe she was saying, "in between her lines," that "what goes around comes around." In other words, she's nice
to her pooches 'cause if she wasn't, maybe it could come back to her some day - - - in one form or another.
Plus (i.m.o.) like you said, she was just being funny and cute and Stevie-ish.

I'm don't think her quote/thought was that deep. What she implied -- in her own oblique way -- was that she overly pampers and loves her dog so much, that she would like to come back to that same level of pampering and love. Your thought implies that her primary incentive for caring for her dog is fear of reincarnate karmic retribution!

Ohhh Stevie:

"Rhiannon I got from a book that was a book about two Welsh women, Rhiannon and Bronwyn. So I named an afgan Bronwyn and wrote a song called Rhiannon."

But I remember when Stevie talked about running out of her house during a fire she named the things she was worried about saving and I think she included her cashmere blankets. So, if she loves them that much, they might actually have names.

And...in the BN era, when she wrote Rhiannon, did they even have a dog? They could barely afford to feed themselves at the time, no?

I'm not so sure I'm wrong anymore...can anyone confirm if the afgan is a dog or a blanket?

Right. If they couldn't feed themselves what are they doing with a dog. But we know they had at least that one named Jenny (or something) from the Aspen argument.

I'm feeling rather quotes-y right now, so I'm going to try to post some that haven't already been posted. So here's just some good ol' Stevie words from over the years:

"It's hard to be a fairy princess fifty percent of the time and just be a nice lady the other half. But I like my real self better. I don't walk around the house in dripping chiffon."

"When it comes right down to it, would I really want to give up all those years of singing? Would I just have been not that great a mom and not that great a singer because I tried to do both?"
-On not having children

"I didn't want to be just this chiffon girl. I need to really, really write for them and need them to know it. From that point, I set upon developing an intimate relationship with the kids who listen. With every song I write, I really try to express a situation. I want people to know if I can get through something, anybody can. I try never to leave them with a depressing feeling."
-On her audiences

"My very best friend Robin called me and told me she had terminal leukemia and that they thought that maybe she might last three months. So without a doubt, it was the absolute high and low of success. I never got to enjoy Bella Donna at all because my friend was dying. Something went out that day, something left."
(From BTM)

And probably my all-time favorite...
"I think if you are really into words and poetry and situations of life, there is always a little kiss of sadness on everything you do... It's just the kind of person who I am. I always look carefully beneath the outward appearance of things. I want to know what's really going on in somebody's heart."

"I would just like them to know how much I care about them. And to know it's not hard to give up the rest of my life for them."

Nah I didn't really mean it in that way. I was thinking more along the lines that it was a general "Stevie-ism" - as in she was thinking, "LET'S see how can I work re-incarnation into this just for kicks and giggles? "

"OH well let's see now . . . my dogs first of COURSE . . . The blue lamp. My copy of our Buckingham/Nicks album. A nice purple blanket Prince once gave to me. My car keys 'cause you REALLY need to be able to drive 'ya know. And of course the phone because the neighbors are gonna be pissed if you don't call the FIRE Department - They might not realize that we're young! And of course all of
my sheet music and poetry. And my piano. Of course, I'd need a forklift for that.
I CAN'T CARRY that!!! And all of my books. And my tv. And my pens and paper
'cause you can't write without that. And I guess that's about IT!
Oh and Lindsey, if possible."
