And, they dressed Billy like Lindsey, so from 500' away(or however far it is to the back of an arena), it wasn't easy to tell, at first. And as I've mentioned before, I'd walked away from being obsessed with FM at that point(people in college thought they were a dinosaur band, even back then), so I wasn't hanging on every word about them, like I was in the Tusk/Mirage era. But I still didn't want to miss the show(and not tell my cool friends about it).

They also did that on VH-1. VH-1 would have Fleetwood Mac Weekends every few months where they’d show clips of pressers before the videos, including the press conference where Billy and Rick were introduced.

No doubt Lindsey's departure was huge new in radios and MTV. But still, I don't think that was fully noticed by everyone. I remember that when Benjamin Orr died, some friends confused him with Rick Ocasek, they did not distinguish which songs were sung by one or the other, I mean not watching the videos by just hearing the names.

Question: Did they know he was leaving when they shot that video?

But that’s a disingenuous standard. I’m saying that it generated more interest in and curiosity about the band, which led to more sales. I’m saying it made a song that would have been a top 10-15 hit into a top 5 hit.
I don’t see how that’s remotely controversial.

Doubtful. The video producer likely modified the storyboard to make the footage they had tell a story after learning Lindsey left. Probably not too hard since it was already a breakup song.

Chris went on the record in 1987 that she knew Lindsey was leaving while writing Little Lies and the song while a break up song the little lies were about Lindsey. She knew he was not happy but always danced around his involvement with the band post Tango. The little lies were Lindsey's. Never concrete in his future plans and always coy. When I first joined the board many doubted that story until I posted it from youtube here on the Ledge.
Maybe the band should have released Welcome To The Room Sara and the music industry would have made it a hit because Lindsey left. I am sort of surprised at the lack of support Chris's Tango songs have on this board. Clearly they were the best singles and were always going to chart the highest. Yet few defend the songs and buy into a conspiracy that they were not really that great and Lindsey leaving somehow did something. Its beyond laughable what people believe. The ground is uncertain and a Landslide is happening. First Little Lies would not be a hit. Now it would only be a top 15 song. Maybe in a few months do we hear top 10? Chris had the biggest hit on Mirage. Why would it be surprising she would have the biggest hit on Tango?

I have consistently said pretty much since I joined this forum that Christine was at her peak with Tango and BTM, and plenty of other folks here have said things like that as well. Little Lies, Isn’t It Midnight, As Long As a you Follow, Save Me, Love Shines, Do You Know, Everywhere, Mystified, Skies the Limit, Heart of Stone, Behind the Mask- not one bad song in the bunch!

As it is, the highlighted songs on the album stickers were Big Love, Seven Wonders, Little Lies, and Family Man, so I don’t think it was obvious Lindsey was leaving while they were still actively promoting the album. Obviously, they bumped up “Everywhere” because Lindsey quit and it didn’t make sense to promote one of his songs while the band was touring, especially given the success of “Little Lies.” Quote:

“Go Insane” and “Big Love” are practically interchangeable. One hit #23 and one hit #5. What’s the difference? “Big Love” was the first song from the first Fleetwood Mac album in five years and had a really cool, quirky video that featured the band. Would you say BL is 18 spots better than GI? Quote:

It was the perfect post-punk/new wave sound.
