As I was at the local mall today.I stopped into FYE and see they have a vinyl Rumours there for $21.00 bucks.Maybe I should set up a popup shop at the Mohegan Sun casino early of the day of Stevie's show there with all my extra copies of my Stevie/FM vinyl.I probably would make a killing .

A few new vinyl albums I've picked up over the past week or so...
Stevie Nicks Wild Heart (2 copies, as one was damaged). Stevie Nicks Bella Donna I've only had a short amount of time to listen to side one of Wild Heart. Elvis Presley Showroom Internationale (2 LP set) Recorded August 12, 1970. The show hadn't been released in full until recently. Excellent cover shot. I'm really looking forward to a serious listening session with this one. |

This is the Elvis set I'm thinking seriously about now...
http://www.memphisrecordingservice.com/mrsms.htm The Gene Clark set is finally on it's way, supposedly upgraded to 200g vinyl from 180g which seems more than heavy enough. I'm not sure what those mid 70s RCA flexidisc things were, 60g? Those things was weird, flopped around then sprang back flat. |

complaints are from mostly hypocrites who own many Elvis bootlegs and yet complain about these not being legitimate releases. I'm not sure the thicker vinyl makes for a better sounding record. For me the 180g is enough. More than that I start wondering about the height of the tonearm. I have many of those flexidisc. By the time I was old enough to buy records the industry had gone to that unfortunately. |

I think the Memphis Recording Service releases are properly licensed for sale in Europe at least, like the German Bear Family label releases. They do a great job in quality but they are pretty expensive items to import unfortunately.

___________________________________________ STEVIE NICKS BELLA DONNA Finally got a chance to do a serious listen to this late tonight. As with all my new vinyl I look at it carefully using a bright lamp to see if there are any imperfections in the vinyl. I saw no scratches or scuffs. As I'm listening to side one, I'm impressed. The vinyl is quiet. Much more so than many of my "new" records. I didn't compare it to my original copy as I have not cleaned it yet. But I did like the sound I heard. Then side two... PROBLEM Happy with my new vinyl copy until Leather and Lace. Some odd distorted crackling through much of the song. As I listened to the rest of the album I didn't notice any other problems of that sort. My hopes of a perfect album came crumbling down. Again with the lamp test, and still I couldn't see any marks on the vinyl. Curious to whether any of you have the same problem on side two?. |

I still have the original pressing of Bella Donna from when it first came out and after wearing out a cassette copy or two made it into the CD age without the need to get vinyl over again. Same for Mirage. There's been a real increase in demand for vinyl and I think fine details can get lost in the rush sometimes.

A few new records I picked up this week...
Roy Orbison The Ultimate Collection (Sony Legacy) What a fantastic collection of songs. A truly remarkable singer. I would recommend this set to anyone who loves music. Besides a few scratches on side A, the vinyl is one of the better sounding of all the new records I've purchased. At times it seemed Mr. O was sitting in the room with me. I've never heard Blue Bayou sound so good. Chill bumps. Elvis Presley Way Down In The Jungle Room (Sony Legacy) A nice selection of songs from the last sessions Elvis recorded at Graceland. A little salty language that surprised me was left on here as he's still working through the songs with his band. I've heard him use this type language before but not on a release for the general public. But he's in a good mood here and puts on some very good performances. Disproves some of the tall tales I'd always heard about these recording sessions. I have most of the outtakes already from these same sessions, but this set sounds very different from anything I've heard before. And except for a few scratches here and there the vinyl sounds good. Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1996 - 2016 Haven't got a chance to listen to the vinyl yet (I have the CD) but it looks like another quality job from United Record Pressing NOT! Even though I didn't see the circled "U" in the dead wax, it sure looked of URP. That doesn't guarantee a bad sounding record, but it doesn't bold well. I've been down this road with too many of their pressings. Will report back when I've had time to do a serious listen. |

On this past Wednesday I received two milk crates of albums from my friend down the street.Too bad there is no Stevie and Mac in this batch. Most were great R&B artists from the 60's,70's and 1980's like the Donna Summer,Patrice Rushen,Commodores,Minnie Riperton .Isaac Hayes.Chaka Khan and more. .Plus classic pop rock like Peter Frampton ,Beatles ,Chicago,Bruce Springsteen ,Barbra Streisand and more.Plus some classical and big band music like Glenn Miller 3 album set in almost mint condition. in the collection too.No Stevie , FM or Elvis in this batch.I'm surprise that he did not take the Beatles and the Glenn Miller 3 album set.
Also there was some press test records plus a couple of high school marching band albums from the 1960's.

Skip you're one lucky guy. The only time anyone gives me vinyl
is at Christmas. I wish someone would make a decent quality 45 rpm record player like they did in the 50's and 60's. If I knew how to work on them I'd have one now. I think they're pretty cool. |
