I do the Carmen tapes too The second in the series is probably my favorite, it's the only one that I think gives you a real work out.

Haha, well it's nice to be appreciated. I've never really posted a lot on the ledge, I'm more of a livejournaler but hey, there's a first time for everything, right?

Where is he?!?!? I'll kick his ass!!
oops, wait...no...I'm not in highschool...no need to kick any asses.

"Scary Carrie" - did you tell him how awesome and clever he was for thinking of that?

My mom specifically chose my name for its lack of nicknames and rhyming possibilities.

Amber blamber. no.
Amber rambler. lame.
Amber scrambler. uh uh.
Amber Shazambler. pretty good.
uh...
amberger was my favorite, but it isn't exactly insulting, since I love hamburgers. Also, no one except my friends ever said that.
Which reminds me of how I am hungry right now...

It's all very simple, really. In order to get results, you have to work hard. I mean hard. And it isn't just about reaching a point and staying there. You have to constantly try to push the outer limits of your stamina. It's not supposed to be pleasant or convenient. It has to be difficult or you're not working hard enough. It has to take all of your concentration and focus. I see people at the gym all the time, mostly women, who just go through the motions using 2.5lb dumbells, not even breaking a sweat. And I just wonder why people bother doing that. It's not really doing much to increase their strength or stamina. It's not really burning many calories. Maybe it's just the psychological satisfaction of saying "I was at the gym last night. I'll have two scoops of ice cream instead of one."
A lot of women have heard "light weights high reps" so much that they don't understand what they should be lifting at all. I don't know how people go to the gym without breaking a sweat and get any satisfaction out of it. I sweat like a bastard when I go. I went up 5 lbs on all my leg weights today, 20 on my calves. Calves are easy to work because it's a muscle that's used so much you don't have to struggle with finding it or with form so much.

so true. and women are so afraid of bulking up, which is pretty much impossible to do unless you are specifically working towards that physique.

I find most of these exercise programs to be so bogus. Sure, the instructors usually have incredibly buff bodies. But how do you think they got that way? It certainly wasn't by using a step or a rubber band with handlles on it. They either a) used steroids b) spent hours/day every day at the gym lifting heavy iron. They are deceiving people into believing that they will have these heavenly bodies by following these easy 30-minute routines. Think about it- Tony Little didn't get those 20" guns by stretching some rubber bands.

The only ones I believe actually practiced what they preached are/were Richard Simmons and Denise Austin. Neither of them had extremely buffed physiques, but they looked like normal people with average body fat, which is essentially what you end up with when you don't workout intensely. I think even Jane Fonda (back in the day, of course) probably busted her hump in the gym with weights in addition to her aerobics.
I used to always think this too, but I guess it took me growing up and learning really how to work with the tape. it's all about getting the heartrate up and keeping it up. (wow, that sounds dirrty.)
