I hate to say this, but, I went to a meth lab raid today. And it gave me a bit of a headache.
I also hate to say this, but, I was more worried about the neighbor's 3 mangy dogs tied with 2 foot chains to random junk objects in the yard than I was about 2 children who were actually living in the meth house. At least the kids have people to take care of them now. After I get off work, I'm going to call the humane society and report about the dogs. Seeing them so miserable, mangy, and lonely - with one having knocked over his water bowl, now he's stuck outside with no water, and no one was home - made my chest hurt. I'm riddled with anxiety over it, and I'm having a hard time focusing back on my work now.

I hate to say this but as sad as that story is my first thought was "gosh I miss covering stuff in the field" Though it did get depressing at times - like what you've described above. Do call on those people - those poor dogs |

I just got off the phone with the humane society. They took all the information I gave them, my name and number just incase the investigator has questions for me, and are sending someone out to check on them.
This was wayyyyy outside city limits, in podunk: One dog was chained to an old car parked in the back yard. He had about 3 feet of chain. And by chain I mean thin wire chain, like you'd put on a fence gate.. nothing sturdy, and definitely not comfortable. I didn't see any food. If there was water in the bowl, it was very little. He was under the car for shelter. One dog was chained to some sort of wooden frame. He was covered in mange and had about 3 feet of chain. He did have water. I didn't see any food. He didn't have any shelter. The third dog was chained to an old, rusted semi-trailer. He probably had 5 feet of chain. No food. Knocked over his water bowl. He could get under the tractor trailer rig for shelter. The condition of the home that they were around was disgusting. They obviously have children as well, judging by the scattered toys, etc. in the yard. The people were obviously not home, and the grass around the dogs was such that I could tell they stay in the same spots, likely all the time. Judging by the area they live in, and the condition of the home... I'd say it's likely that they are meth users as well. Maybe, maybe not. But they definitely aren't good dog owners. I would have loved to have gotten closer to them and checked them out... but I wasn't comfortable going over into their yard. Plus, it's dangerous to approach dogs you don't know... and considering that I have a little baby doggie of my own at home, I don't want to accidentally carry something that would make her sick. I just hope some chain of events occurs that will give those dogs a better life.
