But, this is true on every Nicks album since the mid-80s, right (and arguably before that, if you count songs that were demo'd for Mac but ended up on Bella Donna or The Wild Heart)?

IYD: "Secret Love" and "Moonlight"
TISL: "Candlebright," "Sorcerer," and "Planets of the Universe"
SA: Nearly all of it, I believe, with the exceptions of "Blue Denim," and the outside songwriter songs

So the thing about 24KG that's different is that there aren't newly written songs added into the mix. I understand your point of view about this, but I think the quality of the songwriting from that phase of Nicks' life makes this a very high quality album of songs rather than a collection of "cast offs".

Of course a song being a demo or cast off doesn't mean much per se. Planets of the Universe is amazing and was a demo for so long because she never got it to sound the way she wanted it to (or so I read). Moonlight is one of my favorite songs; I didn't even know that was "old". (Are you sure about that, btw? Considering it was written with Twilight as inspiration and the first novel came out in 2005...) Technically every song is once a demo, hehe. I understand that a "fan track" or "demo" can sound negative, though.

But didn't Stevie say she released 24 Karat Gold because she was informed of her fans loving the unreleased songs on Youtube?

Moonlight = Lady From The Mountain. Recorded for Tusk, Bella Donna, Rock A Little and finally released on In Your Dreams after Twilight inspired some additional lyrics.

It's literally the closest thing you can get to a "fan album" per definition -- a collection of songs that only fans ever knew or cared about. Plus, to quote Stevie, she was trying to "make a good album, not a hit record" (paraphrasing). On the other hand, Rooms on Fire, Two Kinds of Love, Whole Lotta Trouble, Planets in the Universe and Sorcerer are quite well-known. At least here.

Sad TISL didn't get good word of mouth. That album is flawless. I don't know why you call me crazy though, haha. Don't take my opinion of the album as a personal attack? :P

I have to agree with Twin....the first time I heard the album, I was VERY disappointed. It has since grown on me, but I still feel there are very few "classic" songs on the disc.....there's a reason why most of them were passed over for previous solo efforts or FM albums......they're just not that great.

If FM gets their rear in gear with their album and get it released before the deadline. They might get into the grammy noms on time,

On the otherhand .They probably will get ignored again as always.

Their pears rather vote for crap and unknowns.

It's suspect to theorize that Fleetwood Mac's motivation in making an album concerns winning awards. Their likely intention is to just make an album they can be proud of, regardless of their peers and commercial potential. There are so many artists who have won Grammy awards yet had short-lived careers or have fallen off the radar of public consciousness. Fleetwood Mac is a historic, legendary band, with enduring world-wide recognition. They are far beyond yearning for an award to prove themselves. However, it would be very sweet if they turn out an album of such high caliber that it garners that level of appreciation.

Those dreadful drum machines! It's like throwing brown paint on a Rhiannon painting! The one song that needs to be remixed today with a proper drum arrangement is "Nightbird."

Bingo .I agree. Many have dropped off the radar .FM would be fine and live forever.

FM is like Ford,Chevy or Dodge or even Hoover vacuums .It went through changes of life and still moving on.

Radio Shack.Thats a whole other topic.

Those drum machines remind me of the little Casio keyboard I got for $40 bucks at Crazy Eddie years ago.I still suck playing it today.

It's that Casino keyboard quality makes her work seem unfinished at times. The production has rarely met up to the quality of her songwriting, which mars the overall quality of her solo catalog. 24 Karat Gold, despite being a "fan album," will be respected by the music community over time because it was organically created, with real instruments. The synthetic/electronic sound has never really suited Stevie's music. If she continues with producers like Dave Stewart on future releases, she will eventually get into the RRHF as a solo artist.
