I think Gloria was involved, if I remember correctly. I see the appeal of both GaGa and Shakira, even though I'm not crazy about either one. As you said, GaGa has marketed herself brilliantly.

I hated her for a really long time, and then I began to like the catchiness of a few of her songs (namely "Love Games"-- "Just Dance" irritates the crap out of me). But yeah, for her it is TOTALLY about being as weird as possible. Usually, I love that about her-- as long as its in moderation. She needs to be weird enough to be interesting but not so much that she crosses the line.

Have any of you seen the "Bad Romance" video? I'm 75% petrified of it, 25% in awe of it.

I prefer...Shakira, or pretty much anyone else over Lady Gaga
But if I want to listen to a female singer nowadays, I'd rather go for Vanessa Carlton, Beyonce, Bat for Lashes, or my old standby Stevie

Thanks for all that posted videos to see who Lady GA GA is.
Now I know why I never bothered spending more than 20 secs on her.

Shakira is far more the talent with her writing, producing , singing and dancing. Crossing over the latino to america is a huge deal and Shakira has nothing left to prove.

My bet is Shakira will be around 10 years from now and many other performers will fade .

I don't like either of them and I dont have an opinion to contribute, but I had just read that Lady GaGa had 80 pizzas (2 meal deliveries of 40 pies) delivered to fans who camped out for one of her CD signings and I thought that was pretty cool. She at least really seems to care about her fans which is admirable.
