Default overrated

My Overrated:
Mariah Carey (I don't care if she can sing every note, I just don't feel anything from her songs)
Selena (good songs, too short of a career to really put so much acclaim on her)
ANY RAP (no melody, no insturments, what is it they do again), and just as a side me and my roomate were arguing about this, she was trying to tell me that rappers have just as much talent as Hendrix, I was thinking she lost a few marbles.
ANY of the teen pop (britney, christina, justin, bb, n'sync...)
Janet Jackson, shes okay, but well...
Greatful Dead: If I want LSD influenced rock I'll listen to the JA.

Now as a sidenote: I don't think you can overrate the Beatles, everything for the most part Rubber Soul on (excluding a few songs from MMT and the White Album is great stuff).
Led Zepplin I just got into and just bought the DVD, they are awesome and I will forever envy my dad who saw them live several times.
Oh and you don't need to be old to like Barbra Strisand, I love her and usually place her in my top five voices.

I think a few people go very underrated:
Stevie, one of the first rock females to do both group and solo career simultaniously and she usually gets written off as a flake.
Madonna did everything we are seeing now for girls a decade ago, whatever controversy was left for women in rock she pretty much took care of it. Not a great voice, but a great entertainer.
Paul McCartney: Yes Lennon was a genius, but so was Paul, there would be no Beatles w/o both.
Ringo Starr: not the worlds best drummer, but the beatles early music with Pete Best is awful.

So that's what you spend your SS check on: anti-psychotic drugs.

It all seems so clear to me now.

Barbra Streisand
Celien Dion
Faith Hill
Shania Twain
Sheryl Crow
Tim McGraw
Linkin Park ... one of the few bands of today I've listened to. Of course they suck.
ACDC
KISS ... don't get me wrong, I love these guys, but they are slightly overrated.
Pearl Jam
U2 ... again, they're okay, but not THAT good.
Janet Jackson

good one.

I'd have to say that The Beatles tend to be a tad overrated. Now let the rock throwing commence....

The praises Madonna receives for her "brilliance and changeability" are also played. I agree with Stevie that the sex thing is tired, however, I prefer to alter the sentiment a bit by saying Madonna's whole schtick is tired, let's try something else shall we?

Agreed. She can't even drum up any decent controversies these days. She needs to retire; her best days are behind her.

I like Sheryl Crow although she is everywhere. I don't like hearing her songs on commercials. That drives me nuts.
I don't like her, I mean I loved soak up the sun! But if I hear it one more time I will put a gun to my head and not hesitate to pull the trigger!

Barbra has a beautiful voice. But it is hard to say if she's better than Whitney. Different styles, different kind of voices.

Overrated is also when a just new singer or band comes and media say... "the new Elton John", the "new king", or "greater than the Beatles!", "famous in the whole world", or worst of all.. "the best album in rock history"
Yes, thank you. I know what overrated means...and I'm just saying I don't agree with the usage of the term...and even after reading your fine statement, I still do not think it's appropriate...which is why I choose not to use it...and that's my opinion...I'm not saying no one else can use the term...that would be silly...as it's just one of my own pet peeves in life...it's something that's bugged me in the past and will continue to until the day I die probably lol...I'm just not into using that term...that's all I'm sayin'
