Even more amazing to think that those trees are just around the corner from my house, hell, bushes and forests are a dime-a-dozen here....

The street I grew up on used to have trees in front of every house lining the block. Now, they are all gone. When they had to put sidewalks in the trees were the first to go. Progress I guess... and the ADA. My favorites, besides the ever present palm tree, are the Jacaranda's throughout SoCal when they are in bloom.

I'm partial to the joshua tree. We have some really cool pics from a trip. I'll try to post them when I get home and have access to them.
I also like palm trees. |

I have more trees in my yard than anyone in this side of town, "Nan nanna boo boo, y'all smell like doo doo" My yard stays shaded throughout the summer (Which is why the grass dies out - but I dont mind since I wont have to mow dead grass)
I have several huge Birch trees, American Elm trees (aka "Piss Elms") a blackberry tree and a famosa tree. There's another huge tree on the lot, but I cannot remember what exactly the type it is (It has large bean pods that grow to over a foot in length - and it sprouts white flowers before the bean pods grow). According to my older brother, I have more trees in my yard than the whole city of Lubbock Texas.

Trees are wonderful. Miracles. Testaments to perseverance and strength, and nurturing and life.
OOh yes yes I do love trees!! Magnolia trees... and the wonderful oaks in the deep south with the spanish moss swaying from the branches... The cypresses in the swamps in Louisiana... With their knee-roots sticking out of the water.... Any tree is great though really

Oh my god Terry. That's the tree I was going to post. I've been researching them for a few months, looking for any variety that will grow down here.
But since you beat me to it, I'll go with the Bottlebrush. It's an ornamental willow variety native to Australia that thankfully has naturalized in the southern coastal areas of the US. Hummingbirds go bazonkers over them. Blooms Close-up: Baby 2-year old specimen: If only I had this 40-footer in my front yard: |

That red maple posted by Mikeshmike is incredible. Here's one, and some in the distance. My dad's mill is out there. Here's some in back of the house My parents' road is in a forest Parents' town with many pine trees. Yes, that is the whole town. lol. Some more of our lovely pines in the background, here. Okay, I just love this pic, but there are trees back there, and that was close to my house when growing up, its my elementary school. I climbed and forted those very trees!!! I know, I suck. I feel sorry for these city kids, their schools are all concrete.
